If my budget was 2k, I'd upgrade the monitor as well if possible

You can build a a capable PC for 1080p gaming for well under $2k if you’re only gaming at 1080p max settings.
This build is overkill but well under $2k and gives you the option to go up to 1440p if you ever upgrade your monitor.

That 7800x3d is about $100 more than your pick list has it for. While this is a really good build, I'm not sure the 458 for the 7800x3d is the value pick here. There may be more value in the processor on the AM5 platform that would allow an upgrade later if wanted.

Ah I do see that it's back up in price... I did actually see it at $350 yesterday surprisingly.
I really think x3d variants are the play considering how good they are for gaming, especially at low resolutions where it makes maxing frames a lot easier. Ideally he could get a 7600x3d but that is microcenter exclusive.

Everything else built is great. If it can be had for $350, that would be the way to go.

Agreed. I would just keep an eye on it. With the prices seemingly changing often, maybe he could get one for a reasonable price.

If he can afford to wait, I think there's merit to giving it a month or so to see how the 9800x3D and 7800x3D shake out on pricing.

So I should hold off on any purchase for a month? New product coming out to alter the price?
Id pay more a premium if it meant longevity

We're anticipating a new round of GPUs in 25Q1, but the CPUs I'm talking about have already been released, but one of them only just. If you live near a Microcenter, I would just grab one now. If you don't, I would wait a bit for the 9800x3D's availability to improve, and then see if that's the better play or if the 7800x3D goes on sale.

I may have to bite the bullet and get on this. What's my longevity looking like with this mobo, processor combo?

The motherboard could handle a CPU at least one more, if not two more, future generations. Either of those CPUs themselves would probably last you the better part of a decade based on your stated usage case.

Thank you for your assistance

You’re welcome. When you’re actually ready to pull the trigger, let us know, and we’ll do updated parts lists suggestions for you. They tend to be time sensitive on price, so you don’t necessarily want to revisit old ones

Everything except power supply and case. Started to do just a little then realized I just need a total rebuild. If power supply craps out I'll replace

I really like the Phanteks Nv5.

So I'm piecing it together. Just realized my old mobo did not need the atx12v. Unless I'm missing it.
Stupid question
I have the 2x24 MB power plugged but it is not joined with a 2x4 at 12v.
Or is the atx12v the CPU1 plugs?
I'm at a loss where the CPU1 plugs go. I've got everything else in

I'm an idiot.
This is where the CPU1 goes isn't it?

Seems like my CPU1 connector will not work with axt 12v but a CPU2 connector that I found does work
Last update:
Pretty sure I need to buy a new CPU connector with the right config slots

Are you re-using your power supply from a previous build? If so, you’re are much better off just getting a brand new PSU… it’s not recommended to mix and match cables from separate manufacturers.
