First post on GB. The AoE series is the only computer game I've played into adulthood. Excluding the expansion packs I've played all of the versions of the game through AoE III and came across reviews of the definitive editions on YT. It got me feeling nostalgic and wanting to buy again.

I found that AoE 4 was announced in mid-2017 but through a search it doesnt look like much progress has been made towards a release date. Just a few blogs mentioning it should be released this year. Anyone know when or where they'd have official announcements on the progress of this game to release date?

You should give the Civilization series a try. Civ VI has an expansion coming out in a couple weeks.

How hard is it to pick up (is it very similar to AoE)? Dont have a ton of free time to pick up on a brand new game and would rather not waste my money if Id just grow frustrated with it. Ive challenged friends who are gamers in AoE who had never played before and their efforts were futile. it was pretty disgraceful

Civ is turn based and not as resource dependent as AoE. Main difference is you progress through the ages on Civ. It still requires improving resource tiles, science, culture and diplomacy.

Civ is a much more involved AoE. Civ games can go on for days if you wanted to

There's still a pretty decent sized aoe2 community.

You can make civ games last 5-6 hours or 5-6 days if you want to

I haven’t seen a definitive date anywhere.
I loved the original, and then I’m still a huge fan of AOE2. I waited forever for aoe3 and it was a huge letdown. At least their still putting out some aoe2 expansions every now and then. Huge aoe2 community on Steam

Age of mythologies was legit. Great follow up to AoE2
