the OT thread

We have seen the thread going on now a thousand times, answer it IRL all the time, to the point that most of us DGAF to actually try to explain it now.

But when will gaming actually be accepted as a hobby, or a lifestyle for some, by the masses? I don't think its wrong to say that being gay is viewed as more acceptable than playing video games as an adult. And thats not to say there is anything wrong with being gay (stout) just that look how long that took to be where those (stouts) people are now.
Gambling, spending money on sporting events, shows and movies, all activities that the gen public is A-Ok with, when will gaming be viewed the same way?

Without gaming... or the local bar - I have no idea how I'd spend my free time. And no I'm not a fat mouth breathing nerd. I am 6'0 160 lbs though.

the only person I know IRL that doesn’t game and isn’t family is one dude that’s a CPA and travels all the time for work.

Everyone else my age (27-31) that I associate with has a system and plays something.

I'm almost 32.. built a $1K or so PC in Jan 2019 and just bought a $500 monitor a couple weeks ago. Have a PS4 Pro as well that I unfortunately don't really touch, with a 40in 4K TV.

I guess the people who would turn their nose up at it are people who's opinion mean zero to me. Any family and friend that I have either know I game and have gamed forever, or when I tell them, they'll say "oh that's cool" and that's it.

I'm 42 with 3 kids, and when everybody is down for the night, that's how I unwind. Simple as that. If some message board honk or some nobody on social media wants to blast that, go for it. I can ignore like a champ.

I thought the response would be worse than it is over there.

Going on 41 next month, and I'm a little over a year into the PC master race.

I was surprised about the response as well. Lot of upvotes for people saying who cares and whatnot.
Def didn’t go the way the OP intended

It was accepted by the masses in the 80s. Pac Man was a huge cultural icon before Mario cam along. Today the video game industry brings in more money than the movie industry, the top gamers make millions of dollars a year, and video game tournaments sell out huge arenas.

It has been accepted.

I started gaming after I got married because it was a cheaper escape than going to the bar.

I don't give a single frick if people accept it.

Why? My PC is pretty nice though in hindsight wish I went with a better CPU. I don't care about 4K on PC gaming (at least right now), and don't care about VR (though Half-Life: Alyx MAY tempt me).

EVGA GeForce RTX 2070
i5-9600K
16GB DDR4 3000Mhz
ASUS ROG Swift 27in 1440p 144Hz 1ms (165Hz Turbo)

What's wrong with this? Other than the fact I will have to play newer AAA titles are less than Ultra (or even High in some cases) settings my setup is pretty nice.

Just in December 2018 I was using:

1050Ti
AMD FX-4300
8GB DDR3
1080p 60Hz
