Witcher 3 did the same to me and I loved the game so much last year I finished reading the books. The games mention so much of what happens in the books. Heart of Stone didn't mention anything in the books but Blood and Wine will because Geralt spends a few months in Toussaint in the books.

Witcher 2 is great and the sword combat might even be better than 3

It takes time to get used to souls combat but once you do it ruins everything else. You may have an issue though with a keyboard.

Oddly enough I didn't find keybinding bad with this one.

I cleared every single Question Mark in Velen, minus ONE that apparently is bugged in the NE corner.

decided to do the Heart of Stone content before beginning NG+.

The wedding was hilarious.

the lvl 36 Arachnomorph camp fricked me up bad. hardest area in the game for me. Fast as frick, many adds, can stun and 2 shot, and dodge my attacks. If I were scared of spiders IRL it would be worse I imagine

Also, apparently i've read, you can clear Smuggler's Caches WITHOUT diving into the water.. you can just loot the barrel on the surface?!

I would much prefer M/KB if I can, not because it's necessarily better for the game but because a controller feels foreign to me by comparison. I played the Arkham games with M/KB, as well as assassin's creed, tomb raider, GTA (except for driving), etc.

Pressing RB/RT to strike felt weird. If I were to continue with a controller, I'd prefer A and B for attacks, with RT to dodge, and RB to drink a potion or whatever. I accidentally drank an item several times during combat, and since the character actually goes through the animation, I died. I didn't bother to check if those settings could be changed, but I imagine there are at least one or two other layouts to choose from. I took to M/KB combat a little, because the basic attack/block is Left and Right click like most other action games. What I don't like is how locking onto an enemy is an absolute requirement. I died several times just from fricking that up. I rarely locked onto enemies in Witcher 3 even when surrounded, because it seemed to use a pretty intelligent algorithm for auto-targeting. Being able to attack and manipulate the camera with the mouse at the same time is helpful.

It would be nice if the on-screen control prompts would show keyboard instead of controller buttons so I don't have to be overwhelmed staring at the controls menu. Apparently every Souls game has that issue, and a modder eventually fixes it.

Yeah, if I can't remap striking keys to buttons it takes a little bit away from game play.

Would you agree to say that W3 has hands down the best combat system to date?

It's crazy because I would rather strike with triggers any day but it could be that I'm used to the controller and you guys feel more at home with a keyboard.

Locking on is only good with 1 enemy in souls. Once you get multiple you don't want to do that as much. Many bosses are easier if you don't lock on actually.

What texture packs have you installed?

I'm having trouble getting W3 to launch after modding with this mod. Also I never use Nexus Mod Manager, manually install every mod.

The problem for me is travel. Too much button/key travel striking with triggers.

You don't rest fingers on the triggers?

Yeah but still think the travel is too long. Striking should be buttons.

Edt: What does resting your fingers on the triggers have to do with key travel anyway?

He means key travel, how far you have to press for the activation point, really screws up timing unless you're used to it. That's one benefit of keyboard/mouse. It's digital rather than analog, so key presses and response times are absolute. It's not a big issue for me. I just have certain preconceptions on control layouts -- intuition based on other games I guess.

Oh I thought he was referring to controller.

With Souls this is common for everyone when they jump in. It just handles differently than other games. Once it clicks though it all falls into place. Not everyone stays around long enough for it to click though. I think Bloodborne is the easiest to start with because the controls are more responsive.

In terms of close-range combat, I'd say yes. It's a near-perfect balance between the cool-looking-but-sometimes-mindlessly-easy Batman-style combat and some of the more challenging but overly burdensome combat systems. You won't be able to please everyone, particularly RPG players who complain about exploitable elements (i.e., they find a pattern or combination of items/maneuvers that are repeatable and effective against every enemy). That exists in Witcher 3, but the game is not so difficult that you have to make a point of finding an overpowered strategy (unless you have Aspergers). Combat is fun if you keep it fun. Compare that to, say, Elder Scrolls, where the developers seem to have spent years coming up with potions, spells, weapons, armor, and combat skill trees, but forgot to make the characters move until about a day before deadline.

Only a Reshade mod. Reshade settings were basically the only mods available a year ago. If I do a replay (maybe after blood and wine), I'll mess with some real mods.

Yeah, he was. The trigger button travel time.

Then I still don't get it. I rest my hands on the triggers and it's pretty automatic. To hit square on my PS4 controller I have to take my finger off the stick.

I run the reshape and upped gamma mod to make nearly impossible to see in caves less relatively but enjoyable.

Really excited for Blood and Wine.

Ah I get what you're saying. Understand that the amount of time it takes for activation of square and trigger might be the same since yr moving your thumb, but just feels slow because of key travel.

Might be just in our head. Will a search to see if anyone tried testing the time.

The 1.20 patch apparently went live on xbox today accidently.

New UI and a gwent card tracker are added.

Lot of bug fixes.
