If so how?

Get a soul gem. Fill it with a soul using a soul trap spell or soul trap enchanted weapon. Use an enchanting table to combine the item, enchantment, and gem.

The higer your enchantment rating, and the larger the soul in the gem, the stronger your enchantment will be.

Ya know, I love me some dragon priest mask. I went through all this trouble to create a good-looking face and then I cover it up with these sweet masks

Next newb question - is there a way, other than selling lots of items one at a time, to increase speech?

Negative.

At least not without almost maxing out your enchanting perks. I think there is a perk that refills your charged weapon everytime you kill an enemy with it. I don't have it.

Azura's star (turned black) really helps to keep things charged.

The bartender/host at the black briar meadery can be exploited to increase speech. Persuade him as many times in a row as you want.

Do NOT bring the star to Azura. Bring it to the guy in Winterhold. The black star takes humanoid souls, and they are always grand. There is never a lack of humanoid souls available for the taking anywhere on the map.

Non-humanoid grand souls are more scattered.

I di that and he put me into it to kill the Mage soul.

He gave it back to me after it was "fixed"

How do I utilize it now?

Either enchant a weapon (I prefer a bow) with a soul trap spell, find a weapon w/ a soul trap spell (merchants have them), or learn the soul trap spell.

Kill a human with the enchanted weapon, or kill them right after casting the spell on them, to capture the black soul.

Recharge a magical item entirely with one black soul using the inventory menu (RB for xbox when on the item).

Or use the enchanting table to combine the black star, an enchant, and the item of your choice.

Both actions raise your enchanting level.

Wash, rinse, repeat. The star can be filled and emptied an infinite number of times.

Another noob question. How do I learn more magic attacks?

Also, the more I level up in the magic, does that make my current attack stronger?

Ok

I had enchanted items using regular soul gems

Didn't realize it was same basic procedure

Guess I was over complicating it

thanks

Yep

Raise your level and new spells will appear for sale with the mage merchants. Every 25 skill points changes your available spells. Novice, apprentice, adept, expert, master (i think).

There are some advanced spells you will have to find out in the world.

You learn more magic by purchasing spell books from assorted vendors. You will find a larger variety of spells offered by wizards and the College of Winterhold as opposed to a random merchant. And I believe the perks increase the damage/effectiveness of the spells that you use.

Go to a mage and buy their spell books. When you read the book the spell will be added to your magic inventory.
