Jesus, I have over 60 hours played and I'm level 34. I obviously like to take my time. Also, let me state that I probably have about 40 hours played and 20 hours paused...

......*ahem*..........

Hi everybody. My name is EastcoastEER, and I am addicted to Skyrim. I am here today in the hopes that I can start down the path to recovery; that eventually I will be able to get my life back on track before it's too late. I don't want to end up like that poor kid who cut his own leg off 33 hours into a Skryim marathon, and bled out amidst a pile of empty cans of Monster and half consumed tubs of gravy.

My addiction started innocently enough; it was a slow couple days at work last week, and I found myself lurking around various online messageboards. I noticed most boards, even non-gaming ones, had a thread or two about Skyrim, and I started reading through those threads. It was nothing more than an attempt to kill some time - I didn't know or care about Skyrim, or any Elder Scrolls games for that matter. Besides, I had still fresh copies of MW3 and Forza 4 waiting for me at home. Then I found this thread, and I found myself consumed with reading about a game I didn't even own. Fast-forward to Friday night and I was sneaking off to Best Buy on my way home from work to rectify that.

The few days since then have been a blur. I vaguely recall my wife yelling at me to put down the controller and eat dinner - don't know what day that was, or if I even ate. I am not entirely sure how I ended up in my office this morning. The last thing I remember was last night - I was tanking through a ruin west of Whiterun looking for a bandit leader with a bounty on his head. Next thing I know I am sitting here. How I managed to dress myself and get here in one piece I'll never know. This can't go on. I know I need help; I need to stop. And I will.

After I max out smithing so I can craft some dragon bone armor.

And get a little bit better at enchanting.

And do the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood questlines.

And maybe start over with a mage build, and actually do the main quest.

Welcome to our zombie ranks.

I'm honestly surprised that this thread has continued as well considering we don't want to waste time doing other things.. I guess we mostly post at work? (I do.)

Welcome to the board and to the addiction!

I wondered into Riften last night about 9:30 (with the plan of turning the game off around 10:00). You can all guess how that went... 2 hours later I still hadn't finished the quest I went to Riften to complete, and had added about 4-5 more new quest.

I'm around 17 hours in and lvl 15, with an absolute mess of a Nord build. My go-to strategy is to tank any enemy I see while dual-wielding a decent (for my level) refined skyforge waraxe and some destruct spell.

I really need to just start over with a specific play style in mind - I've wasted all my bonus skill points by throwing them all over the place without any real plan.

I'm not sure what I'm doing differently.. maybe it's because I'm at 100 enchanting/bsing/pickpocketing? (all of which are fairly quick to do)

Also lately i've been buying skillups in my other magic skills (if they're below 50, its cheap) so that probably helps.. lockpicking is around 60.. destro 80.

Also I assume mages level quicker because you spread your skillups across 5 schools rather than just archery or just 2handed etc.

Destruction appears to be the hardest one to level up. I shoot everything with that crap and I am still only level 70. With alteration you can spam transmutation to level up in no time(and combined with smithing can make some serious bank). With illusion you can repeatedly frenzy/calm/frenzy/calm/frenzy/calm people if you want to be cheap. With conjuration, you can spam summons or just keep shooting soul traps at things. With restoration, you can spam healing yourself, casting wards while in towns, or healing others.

I have found the best way to level up destruction magic is just fricking with the snow trolls. Blast them until they kneel or run away and let them heal back to full health and repeat. They have no ranged attack and they regenerate health so it is a perfect combo especially if you have Impact and can stun them if they get too close.

Sadly I am already in the companions so I can't exploit the joining process to boost destruction...It is taking FOR-EV-ER

Yeah, same here.

I'm lvl. 29 now. Still haven't even went to meet with the Graybeards. My smithing is at 100, enchanting over 40, everything else around 40 or less. Haven't really spent any time trying to master the magic stuff.

I have full dragon plate armor. Daedric armor maxed out is better though, right? I have quests to join the Imperials, the Stormcloaks, the Thieves Guild and the Mage's College. No idea how to proceed in that regard, but I think I'll join Stormcloaks?

In summary, I really have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm having a helluva time doing it.

Exact same build I have, instead of starting over, I'm just going to focus on destruction magic and 1 hand with a little sneak and bow too. I really enjoy sneaking around and picking off targets with the bow.

Next time im goin Orc warrior. A heavy armor 2 hand hammer swinging beast!

What spells are you using? firebolt (novice?)

If so, switch to incinerate/icestorm/icespear/thunderbolt.. I've noticed it takes a LOT less casts of these spells to get skillups. Granted they use a lot of mana but use them when you can. (any expert level spells that is)

Dual-cast Thunderbolt(which I have used since level 5 or so). I also use chain lightning for crowd control and the thunder rune for when I am in "oh shite, oh shite" mode. My current equipment makes a dual casted lightning bolt cost next to nothing. I can't really cast the high level spells because they would rape my mana (even with about 70% reduction in destruction cost) as I haven't unlocked the half-cost perks for Expert and Master.

Is there some lvl limit on higher level spells? In other words, do I need to get my mana level up before they even become available to me?

Next newb question - what the hell do you guys do to deal with the sabretooth bastards when traveling through the mountains? My poor little lvl 15 warrior has to run like a little bitch whenever I see one. My ranged destro spells (firebolt/lightning bolt) and/or bow have about the same effect as a gentle fart.

hahaha.. i'm not even going to try to top that intro. bravo!

I'm about 22 hours in, lvl 21, thief build. I'm maxing out the following first: sneak, one-handed, pick-pocket, smithing. I worked on the main questline up until I had to cause a distraction at the party (forgive me for not remembering specifics) and sneak off to steal some intel. I've strayed off the main quests and I'm working on the Dark Brotherhood at the moment. All my friends are playing MW3 and Halo:Anniversary, and I can't put this thing down. I won't put it down, this game is unbelievable.

I didn't have them at first either, but if you want to level destro, you should really try to use the expert level ones when you can (say on weak dungeons with skellies or something, or to finish things maybe?) and of course try to get the expert perk soonish.

I love being able to incinerate an elder dragon and kill him in one landing cycle without mana potting :)

just don't get too close.. apparently on expert difficulty they LOVE TO EAT YOU. frick fighting that guy in the mage courtyard.. he ate me about 5 times.

Just got my daedric armor last night. Can I enchant these with an enchantment that will stay on it? If so how? Ive already disenchanted and have enchantments I want to put on the armor, just not sure what souls or soul gems to do it with.
