FYI... The PTR has a patch that some say have fixed their FPS issues, or at least substantially improved them.
Thanks

I was reading that last night on the overwatch forums. A lot of people are back to normal, however a lot of people are saying that the fps drop issue is still persisting. Unfortunately I am part of the latter group.
I installed the PTR server (or whatever it is). I only had the chance to play for a minute or two on it, but it didn't look promising. I'll be looking further into it today after work.
What is a good program to use if I want to check system performance on the fly while playing? I assumed I could wait this out for a fix for a couple weeks, but it seems I may need to be more proactive on my end.

Dumb question, but what is PTR? I know stands for Public Test Region, but what does that even mean? I've scoured forums, and Reddit but nothing actually explains to me what it is.

You can monitor your frames per second by options -> video -> display performance stats or you can use the hotkey Ctrl+Shift+R in game to display it.
A couple of you were asking about the purpose of PTR and what it is. Blizz uses PTRs for many of their games as a way of testing out a new patch before it goes live. In this case they are testing out the competitive play patch, witch will release this summer. They were unsure how it would be so by hopping into the PTR you are giving Blizz data so they can further balance the patch before release. So in essence: it gives the players an opportunity to preview the new content while giving the devs valuable info for balancing and adjusting the patch. Hope that helps.
Also, I'm new here and I play on PC. Anyone in here feel free to add me.
My battle.net tag is Duramata#1803

Ah, thanks for the explanation. Makes sense.
I'll add you when I get home. In the meantime you can add me WayToBlue#1873.
I'm interested in finding a group of people who are able & willing to communicate in-game. I just bought a Razr kraken headset that I need to learn how to use.

From what I read on the Reddit thread, the comp patch should be released in a week or so...especially if the first season is set to end August 8th and seasons are 2.5 months long.

I definitely use that option. That's how I can tell me FPS is dropping significantly.
I didn't know if there was a 3rd party option to show live stats on CPU and GPU (temp, workload, etc...)

Blizzard support has announced they put out a patch today that should remedy the issue.
Unfortunately when I attempt to log into battle.net, it's giving me a 40+ minute wait time due to high traffic
This couldn't be anymore of a shite show
ETA: After restarting battle.net a few times, I'm in.Go figure

Game seems to be running smoothly. FPS not quite as high as they were, but consistently sitting around 80 with no choppiness.

I changed overwatch.exe to Run as Administrator, and I am back up to 150+ FPS.

Has anyone tried competitive mode yet? I gave it a go last night. First two matches.... Attack on Anubis. FML.
I'm 1-2 at this point.

shite. Is competitive mode in? I didn't even notice.
I just went 33-5, 24 objective kills, over 10k healing with Lucio. I tried to SS the final screen but it didn't work.

Got on a role and had a 24 kill streak with Reaper, then had a 25 with Junkrat LOL

Every competitive game I've played so far has been absurdly noncompetitive. It's gonna take a while for Blizzard to figure out.

Played one this morning. My team was terrible, I pretty much think two people sat out the whole match, a Tjorborn who almost never placed a turret but twice. Just a bad experience.

Competitive is hard as shite. Had a damn good game with Reaper on Ilios. Went full 5 rounds and we lost 3-2.
79 kills. 50 objective kills. 52 solo kills. 25k damage done.
Games like that make the other games where you get steamrolled well worth it.

Is there any difference between competitive and normal other than it keeps track of everything?

The format is slightly different.
On payload maps it tracks how far the payload is pushed and if you don't get it all the way to the end, the other team just has to push it past your furthest point to secure victory.
On King of the Hill type maps it is first to 3 wins (which took 5 rounds and lots of OT in my match which is why I got 79 kills; the enemy Pharah had 87).
On standard capture maps (Hanamura, Anubis) they currently have a sudden death if both teams successfully capture both points. It is a coin flip on which team is defending and which is attacking and many have complained so they are changing it in future seasons to have each team attack/defend a 2nd time but the time they have is based on the remaining time from their first attempt.
Aside from those format changes, the game is much more fast paced from what I've noticed. The good teams are well organized and relentlessly applying pressure.Players like Mei that are great in 1v1 situations are rarely used in higher ranks due to every encounter being a 6v6 team fight where other heroes are more useful. At lower tiers I still see Mei, but her effectiveness is greatly dependent on how well the other team can stick together and focus her before she can freeze someone and headshot them. A good team should be able to handle her and enjoy the 5v6. A disorganized team will likely be prey to her same ability to freeze and headshot 1v1 like she does in Quick Play.

Competitive play is probably not for me.
