If it was just for games, I'd agree with you.

what kind of silly statement is this
a) this is the 50th list of specs released, all different
b) that list is a dev kit, not a consumer kit
c) price has not been finalized

So you actually meant building a $500 PC that could play 360/PS3 games...?

Everyone has an up-gradable desktop computer? Interesting.

everyone has the option to have one. if they didnt, thats their fault. fact remains a desktop computer can be your console, workstation, and television media device all rolled into one.

you cannot compare a console and a computer based solely on gaming when the computer is a multi use device. you also fail to include the higher price per game console users are forced to pay. oh and it looks like used games are out the window too

Its their fault for needing a portable more feasible computer solution? Alright.

Not to mention a solution that you would have to build yourself and maintain yourself to get a decent price...

I'm just wondering if he meant you could build a $500 PC that could play PS3/360 games or PS4/720 games.

Because if he meant PS3/360 games, that argument means nothing because the consoles aren't even worth close to $500. Not to mention that I agree that a $500 console would play PS3/360 games,

If he meant PS4/720 games then he obviously can't make that statement either for the same reason he gave me. Not only do we not know the price but we don't know the specs.

Not to mention that the next gen games will most likely be 1080p/i games, not 720p like he mentioned.

I'd rather build and maintain myself than deal with YLOD/RROD after a few years of ownership.

hate to break it to you, but a phenom II x4 and a radeon 6850 will play skyrim on high/ultra in 1080p

throw that into a case with reasonable ram, mobo, and hdd and it will run you under $500. and its upgradeable. and its multi purpose.

its not hard, at all, to run a good game in 1080p on a single screen and get good FPS. its multiscreening that needs the expensive rigs.

I will go out on a not so wild limb and say a $500 PC today will be better hardware than what a PS4/720 will ship with.

A console can't ship with the latest hardware and be in their target price range. That's just not going to happen so it's very safe to say that a $500 PC with the latest components will play any game an PS4/720 can.

I'll just ignore the selective responses, but again...are we really talking about a PC that would play 360/PS3 games. Like I said, not only are those consoles 6 years old, they aren't even worth close to $500. And again, I agree that you could easily build a $500 PC that plays games for a console 6 years old.

I'm talking next gen here. But again you can't make that statement because you don't know price/specs, like you said.

By the time the 720 and ps4 come out, you will be able to build a computer for $500 that could play the same games. Yes, I know my cousin built a 360, 3 weeks after release for $400, of course he then turned it into his gaming PC, but he still built it just for shits and giggles.

The ps3 was a little different, but the ps3 also released at $700 as well.

i havent seen a single spec list on the ps4 that tells me its better than a well built $500 pc. period.

and by continuing to bring up that we dont know the specs, you make my original point for me. these console fap threads are hilarious. fanboi's who dont understand hardware getting all giddy over rumors

A $500 PC can play games today that a 6 year old console can't. Any MMO is a great example of this. BF3 having to be cut in half for console is a great example of this.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that games made for specific consoles are tailored specifically to those consoles and therefore you can achieve better graphics with less hardware power.

Mass hardware prices offered to Sony are also lower.

Most just consoles guys do not understand a 500buck Steam Box will give them better graphics, more games, cheaper prices and a larger community. They will pay 400 bucks for a piece of hardware that wont be upgraded for 5yrs.

I love both platforms but most of the judgement come from users are selective with just 1 platform.

Skyrim looks pretty damn good for being on a 6 year old console.

Of course it doesn't look like a PC, but again that just comes down to necessity.

We aren't talking about power here because:

takes 2-3 years to achieve in every generation, you NEVER see dev's ability to use a console's strengths until you are 2-3 years into the life cycle.

This makes this argument completely pointless, because by the time 2-3 years has passed and the graphics have "finally been tailored properly" the cost of the parts in the console are significantly cheaper.

Better being relative to consoles only you mean. No console is going to have better graphic options than a PC now matter how "tailored" a game is for it.

Consoles are just now hitting 1080P with the next gen when PCs are already on to 1440P
