PSA: if you use melee at all, make Dunhill Borers the next location you visit. You won't regret it.

So you thought you had to unlock the perks in order from top to bottom and not just select the ones you want? Am I thinking correctly on that?
No, you just picks the ones you want.

There are some timed quests and they don't tell you.
I picked up a quest in Diamond City and I failed because I didn't finish on time even though I had no clue I had a time limit.

Did you skip through the dialogue like I usually do?
Posted on 11/15/15 at 9:51 pm to sicboy
It is possible I double clicked and missed some dialog informing me I needed to go immediately.
I usually start over at about the 20 hour mark once I've learned the game a bit so this was a good point to start over and I'll pay a bit more attention now that I am rolling on my real player now.

About to have a new wanderer of the waste coming up this early AM.
I've done quite a bit of reading to make sure I don't frick up.
A) Luck is legit and need to level it.
B) only focus on like 2 weapon types so you're not jack of all. Master of none.
Anything else major I need to know?
Oh and to avoid Deathclaws haha

So I joined the Brotherhood. I'm thinking it was destiny.

1. See earlier post on Skill Tree (aim for locksmith and gun nut early on)
2. Go with pistols... Higher damage and don't waste as much ammo
3. frick the big arse mosquitos
4. Get Codsworth as a companion when dealing with ghouls
5. Do not go back to your home w/o you and your companion being maxed out with junk
6. Scrap yellow highlighted objects, save green (B Button)
7. Do not frick with deathclaws
8. Run away from deathclaws
9. Crouch early and often (mimic your skyrim character)
10. Don't sleep on charisma... It can seriously help you
11. Go to diamond city then stop with main story
12. Pick up shitty animal meat and cook it (rats and dogs work just fine)
13. Turn radios on near safes or computer you cannot open yet... Will remind you at a later date if you hear it
14. Grow tatos, mutfruit, and get a water purifier... You're gonna need adhesive... And a lot of it (usually people's limiting factor)
15. Companions can take a beating and will not die
16. Super Mutants don't handle shots to the dome well
17. Quick save often
18. Use terminals when you see them... Shutting down turrents is so nice
19. Pick up comic books and bobble heads
20. Most importantly... Don't be a pussy... Except when it comes to deathclaws

What does saving it do?
Posted on 11/16/15 at 6:14 am to sicboy
Stores it in the workshop and helps it get into heaven.

That took me a second.
So it just saves it as the item itself or the raw materials? I transferred all of my junk in my inventory to the workshop and wasn't sure what happened with it after that. Do I go to the workshop inventory and scrap it from there?

Never played the series until this one and I played it all weekend.
Great game, there is an infinte cap glich out there I'm tempted to use just to get ammo bc I run out often.
Where do I get the fusion cores for the power armor? I only used it when I first got it to take out that deathclaw outside the museum.
I just made it to Diamond City.

Don't. I can see it's tempting, but at least wait for a second playthrough.

They're just lying around.

I know I need to find my son, but dammit if I didn't get caught up in planting carrots and corn in Sanctuary.

I planted tamos, carrots, corn, and melon. I tried to make a house in one of the foundations of the ruined houses I scrapped but I cant get the damn walls to be long enough or they are too long and end up over the foundation. So I just built a pre-fab "large" shack and put a cooking station and bed in it
The main house in Sanct where you start (the yellow house) I tried hooking up a generator and switch and I hooked up a few light bulbs on the front porch but they dont work I must be missing something (I ran a wire from a med generator to the switch which I put on the wall of the house so I dunno)
I went to diamond city early to get access to the Doc to remove all RADS for 40 caps instead of paying 250 for a RADAway.

The wire thing is so annoying. It's not actually anything you craft, which I found out after looking for it in my menu for about 15 minutes and finding a wiki. Now I'm just annoyed at how hard it is to find copper. Someone mentioned phones, so that's why I asked about saving items to the workshop. I find the phones all the time in areas I can't scrap them in, so can I do that once I transfer?
Posted on 11/16/15 at 7:30 am to sicboy
If you are missing ingredients for an item you can set the game to mark the loot that has those ingredients.
Once you have the item you can transfer it to your workshop and the components will become available to use....I think.
It seems to work for me.

Building has been a disappointment so far. You can't move when placing items which makes it a pain in the arse.
