The minutemen quests occur no matter what. You pretty much always have 3 quests. I do them, then report back to the settlement, then don't tell Preston. That gives you some time without being hassled. They will eventually clear on their own but you get a short break.
I feel sorry for those folks at Finch Farm. They always seem to either be fighting the forged or fighting the gunners / robot chick over by the overpass.
Crazy how far the settlers will go from the settlement. If they head out to kill a bug and then when attacking a bug they get into range of something else, they then attack it too. No wonder they are always getting kidnapped and attacked.

Since I am remodeling The Castle, I'll go ahead and store all the machine gun turrets and add all lasers and missiles and attach them all to the same electrical grid. I'll also ramp up food and water production.

Be careful with missiles. They can cause serious friendly fire damage.
Maybe put a wall behind them so they don't fire inside the castle courtyard if some baddies make it through.
I'd like to setup laser wires, pressure plates, tesla arcs, flame turrets in doorways but that will surely harm settlers and provisioners
Someone on reddit had all his missile turrets fire at once into the courtyard because a mirelurk hatchling hatched

Unless they spawn inside the castle, not sure how they can get in.
Only one entrance and it has about 20 turrets facing out.
So far, I haven't seen any attacks inside The Castle. They always come from the water side entrance.
I added the mod that gives a proper warning for attacks, so I'm not worried about missing an attack where they might somehow get in.

for something big like Castle, do this:
Have SWITCHED Pylons running from your generator farm.
One side goes to the water pumps, the other to your Laser Turret grid.
Connect a terminal to your grid. Put it in your "command room".
Set your fast travel mat to right in front the terminal.
You can access all switches on the grid via a terminal.
So, get attacked.. fast travel. Log in to terminal. Turn off the water farm pylon. turn on your laser grid pylon. Suddenly your defense rating skyrockets and you can watch a Laser light show
or just fast travel right to the two pylons and switch them manually.
for something big like Castle, do this:

Ehh I guess if you were deep in a dungeon and couldn't fast travel..and forgot to turn your defenses on manually before you left..your entire settlement would get rekt.

I just realized I haven't used a skill point in six levels. All of my main skills are maxed. Time to invest in sneak and rifle perks.

I blocked off all of my entrances to Castle except one of the big walls you fix. I put a big fence on that wall and added a gate. One way in, one way out.. Lots of turrets. I've yet to have an attack on Castle to see the effectiveness of my defense

I did the Bobbie No Nose quest last night and got the new power armor. I had to leave the other one that I had behind because I wanted the new one. Can I go back to that same spot and expect it to still be there?

Here is the definitive guide on how to get 23 effective units of water pump and laser/missile defense off 1 10 unit generator and 1 3 unit small generator
Note, requires a terminal and the player logging into the terminal to activate/deactivate. The purpose of this is to bait enemies to attack you and save on required generators. Also to feel like a boss logging into your terminal and raining hellfire down upon those foolish enough to attack.
1 Large Generator powers 2 Industrial Water Pumps.
1 LG -> IWP -> IWP
'->' represents a copper wire
Pretty basic.
Add a LARGE SWITCHED PYLON between your LG and your IWP farm
1 LG -> LSP (on) -> IWP -> IWP
Setup your Heavy Laser Turret (HLT) and/or Missile Turret (MT) daisy chain with a 2nd copper wire coming out of your LG
5x HLT <- 1 LG -> LSP (on) -> IWP -> IWP
So now weve got 20 units connected to a LG producing 10. Obviously everything won't work. Time to setup our TERMINAL.
This will be the 3rd branch off the LG. you will need a Small Generator since it requires 1 unit if power. I like to add a SPOTLIGHT to make the SG use all 3 units
Terminal <- sG -> Spotlight
Now, connect the Terminal to the original Larged switched Pylon
LSP <- Terminal <- SG -> Spotlight
Connect the terminal to your Turret daisy chain
Terminal -> 5x LT
When you login to your terminal, you will see 3 options now.
Switch Control
Turret Control
Spotlight Control.
In quiet times, have your Switch ON, your Turrets DEACTIVATED, and your spotlight set to find HOSTILES.
When being attacked, turn your Switches OFF, and Activate your turrets.
Set your fast travel mat to right in front of the terminal, your "command center", for quick access

Damn it. I didn't know you got power armor for killing them fools. I talked my way out of it and everyone walked away. I think I got a mini-gun out of the ordeal.

I'm still getting to know this game, but why does my health still deplete so much even though I'm wearing power armour. My HP seems to deplete just as fast with it on.
