Start off basic like I did. My first class was Human Warrior because I had never played a Dragon Age game before so I thought playing as the race the game was built around would be a good start.

Do you want to tank things with a shield, shoot a bow, ambush from stealth with daggers, swing a 2h axe, or cast spells?

All the classes are done well imo

Go shield warrior. I'm unkillable. Eveyrone else may die, but I won't. It MAY take me a long time to kill anything, but I'm a fricking

Came here to ask if not playing the prior DAs would stop me from enjoying this one, so this kind of answers that. I've seen so much great talk about it, so I was curious if I could pick this one up and have a good time.

Good deal. I'll keep an eye out through the rest of the holidays and I may go ahead and grab it if it's on sale.

No. I've been away from home for the past month and haven't had a chance to play much. Chipping away at it slowly. Only 25 hrs gameplay since I got it.

I finally got to Skyhold.

There is way too much shite to do in Skyhold.

I end up spending an hour there.

Gonna try to get into this game again tonight while I'm waiting on new bounties to unlock in destiny.

Started DA:I a week or so ago but it didn't click. Seemed too slow. Just got into the hinterlands tho, maybe it will pick up

Game is just really beginning once you hit skyhold...

Hawg..yeah the intro is slow. Game really picks up as you begin leveling and exploring the hinterlands though

I sort of knew going into this that Dragon Age Inquisition probably wouldn't be for me, but I must have the patience of a gnat, but it's hard to find motivation to continue playing.

Game feels like it's about 90% side activities and only about 10% meat and potatoes.

The game seems filled to the brim with superfluous activities and distractions that have no baring whatsoever on the main story. The game even forces you to play through a certain number of side activities before you can begin a story mission to grind through enough power to unlock main missions. The side missions aren't even that interesting. I play a lot of MMORPGs and 90% of the quests are straight out of the MMO playbook. Kill x of y or collect a certain number of some item.

If not for doing away with level scaling and forcing side missions to continue progression, I feel like the game would be about 10 hours long.

I'm not sure you could try to be more wrong. A large number of the side quests flesh out the main story.

There are tons of companion quests which flesh out their back story and how they tie into the main plot.

Sounds to me like you either didn't give the game a chance or you stayed in the hinterlands the whole time you played.

Or you could try to be less defensive and respect that I have a different opinion than you.

Hinterlands or not, the problem with the side missions remain the same no matter what area you're in.

I would've preferred less side missions if that meant the ones that existed were more meaningful. 100 hours of close 3 fade rifts, kill 5 bandits, collect 5 packages, and scout all camps. Even the more interesting side missions that do exist in the game are often masked by the sheer amount of fluff that is thrown in your face everywhere you go.

You are complaining about basic RPG and MMO fare that is the same regardless of what type you are playing really. You are complaining about a style of game, not DA Inquisition. It's the same whether you are playing Fallout, Witcher, Skyrim, Dragon Age, or any other popular RPG that is open world.

There is definitely a crapload of sidequests, but the meat and potatoes of DA I is just fine so far as I can tell (only through Hinterlands and Fallow Mire so far and at Skyhold). Story is superb, only issues I have are the horrible CPU controls that force me to use a controller, and some annoying bugs/glitches I've come across here and there.

That is really the issue. Some people just aren't a fan of the genre.
