The supplicants are not as easy to deal with as you assume. If they get within 5 feet of you, they explode and you're dead... Pillar or no pillar which IMO, standing on the pillar is a fools folly IMO and we did it both ways with little to no difference. However, I did notice that the majority of the supplicants spawned on the right side and it's probably best that we put two on the right and one on the left to take care of the supplicants. Otherwise, those on the outside will get over ran by them and lead to constant restarts. I also noticed from the first video that Atheon is soft in the middle (similar to the venus gate lord from the campaign) and that sniper rifles are clutch in taking down some of his health... But that leaves you exposed to the existing elements while starring down the sights.
If you want to run the outside and deal with the supplicants since you're assuming they're easy, be my guest. But I think it's best to stick with the way we've been running the portals and outside but need to rethink our strategy for the outside sections when dealing with the supplicants.
ETA: Off topic but damn Allie LaForce is hot (sideline reporter during AU v. MSST game). Reference:

The same amount of supplicants spawn and go to each side. It's 4 to the left and 4 to the right, I believe. And then there's a second wave depending on how long it takes the guys on the inside.

Possibly but I always noticed 4 on the right and 2 on the left. Either way, we need a new strategy on dealing with those fricks because they're getting the best of us.

Whenever the group goes to the middle, I use my weapons of light shield to add extra damage buff but I also use the buff to pick off the supplicants before they pile up.

They spawn equally on both sides.

Yes, I stated this like 10 times last night. But damage was not our problem. We had him at half health in about 2 turns. Well on pace to finish him before rage when we used the center pillar and shield strategy.

If all the subblicants are down and you guys are in the relic holders shield there is nothing to worry about besides doing damage. Atheon can not harm you when the buff is up.

I didn't really mean easy. Bad words. Less complicated and straight forward. Which is why videos are not needed.

Yes, I saw that strategy too but figured I should not bring it up as we were having trouble with the basics.

Here you go, here is a video of the guys fighting the supplicants on the pillars. It works awesome because it keeps the gates open with no scrambling needed and you can't get blown up.

Keep in mind these guys are not using the shield to protect during the buff/damage stage. They are just all attacking on their own. That is why he moves forward when they leave the portal. This is not as fast as our strategy with the middle pillar and shield but you can see what you wanted to see here.
