I'm not particularly concerned with it right now. Everything will change with year 2 exotics. I imagine the new PVP is heavily tailored toward new guns and we're just playing with outdated shite for a week. It will straighten out over time.

The Last Word went from the second best gun in the game (best if you ran with a sniper) to completely unusable. Meanwhile, Thorn remains the best gun in the game. Red Death is very good. Obviously the messenger is solid. I didn't play around with any auto rifles but I got melted by plenty.
Shotguns still snipe, so that's disappointing.
My biggest beef with it is that snipers are at a much bigger disadvantage now without a close range weapon to protect against shotguns.
I played my first five rounds on control with the Monte Carlo yesterday and actually got some kills. They aren't great still, but definitely are improved.
Thorn isn't near as bad as it was. There was nothing stupider than being two-shot by someone who had it to just die from the DOT. I've survived several encounters since the update that I would have for sure died in before hand had they not nerfed it what they did.

Bad Juju, bros. I anticipated this change as well and started playing with Red Death for the past few weeks, so I like it as well. Messenger may have better stability, but Red Death's healing perk is so good.
I also played around with the Vex last night and was getting 43 per headshot, which definitely seems a little OP.

I hope the vex comes back. Love it. I can't get over the lower impact and low stability of red death. Healing is nice though.

They nerfed pulse rifles a bit right?

Pulse Rifles
All Stable (low recoil) Pulse Rifles (i.e., Hopscotch Pilgrim) now use "Medium" Rate-of-Fire base stats
"Medium" Pulse Rifle's Rate-of-Fire has slightly increased, but with base Damage reduced slightly (2.5%)
PVP: Bursts-to-kill (all precision hits) is 2 or 3, depending on victim’s Armor stat
Magazine Size increased on all base stats
Base Stability reduced slightly. Landing consistent precision shots require more weapon control
Damage done against AI combatants increased by 25%
Yes and no. It just kind of depends on how you look at it. Pretty much all of the changes were give/take. Some guns lost some impact, but gained rate of fire. Pulse rifles lost some stability, but all gained at least an extra burst in the magazine. They have been my favorite class in PVP so far in 2.0.

Stability increased to compensate for global Pulse Rifle changes
Fixed an issue where Rate of Fire and Impact stats were displayed incorrectly. Stat values were not changed, UI display only
From the looks of the patch notes, it seems as if the weapon hasn't changed at all. The only thing that appears to have changed are the stat values on the UI. That makes sense, because it always seemed like the Messenger hit way harder than what the stats showed. Now the difference is very visible.
So if you were used to using Red Death before, the impact and stability are no different. If you're comparing it and the Messenger in a vacuum, then yeah I definitely see where you're coming from with Messenger winning out with impact and stability.

You guys testing out those prototype guns from the Gunsmith? They're pretty sweet

Not a fan of the new sniper you have to use in PVP to rank up. The fusion rifle works well.
Goofed around with the PVE weapons for a minute, but nothing too serious.

Impact went down half. It was the same as messenger.
Eta: or has it always been half of messenger and same as 55a?
Eta2: oh now I see. It showed it as a higher impact but it wasn't. It just changed the bar to what it was supposed to be. I was wondering why I never got a 2 burst kill.

I started playing with that again.

I never liked bad juju. It didn't have enough stability for me.

Everyone hates on that gun big time. But between supers every 5 seconds and the recent pulse rifle buff, it's actually pretty usable in a lot of situations now.

I used it heavily before I got the last word. I still like it a lot.
It has perfect balance of you want it, but send it is probably the way to go.

Finally got the Crota chest piece last night and it's going to be useless in a week. FML.

Ive been wanting Black Hammer for bosses but that died. Oh well. Oversoul Edict would still be a good gun to try to get.

I just recently got it again after deleting my leveled up one. I do want to level it up and try it out in the Crucible. I love any pulse rifle that is full-auto.
I also deleted the Stranger's Rifle on all three of my characters back when pulse rifles were terrible, but I just went and did the quest for the legendary version, so that's another one I want to try out.

I actually got this gun in the same run...lol. I'm somewhat new to the game, but what makes this a good one to try and get?

It's a full auto pulse rifle.
