Well...it is a level based off of a very literal meat grinder. Verdun was hell.

Very true. The maps that came with the original game are excellent and did a good job of trying to show you "what it might have been like," but DICE has really outdone themselves with the two Verdun maps. They are incredible both as game maps (Verdun Heights has grown on me, I really enjoy it now, and Fort de Vaux is the best map in the game), and also as attempts to portray on some level the reality of what those men went through.

The ten-second countdown to game start on Fort de Vaux while playing as the French is probably the most evocative moment the game has produced for me so far. I just wish I knew enough French to know what the unseen officer is shouting as you prepare to meet the German attack.

Any word on whether we'll get a French War Story eventually?

I haven't heard. It would be a tremendous missed opportunity to not provide one, but you never know with DICE.

You can change the setting to always have voice over in your native language.

Interesting. I wasn't aware. I might try that one time, just to see what he is saying, and then change it back for the sake of verisimilitude.

I think when you switch it they will have an American accent. Nice just to hear what is being said then switch it back for realism.

They really did nail the new maps. Played some last night and finally got to use the trench raider sentry. So much fun. Held up in the bunker at point A going up the hill on Verdun. Was just throwing down smoke and hitting anyone that came in. It was intense.

Since getting premium a few days ago, all I've played is battlefield. I'm digging the new chauchat. Shoots and handles like I wish the BAR did, very reminiscent of the world at War BAR with the slow cyclic rate.

Okay, they seriously need to fix the siege howitzer.

Went to use it on verdun, but team was winning so it wasn't available. Team started losing....still not available.

And is verdun the only map it's on?

That thing needs to be on several maps and more easily accessible. As it is it's awesome but damn near useless.

I haven't gotten to use the siege howitzer or the trench raider kit yet. I'm still trying to finish up the LMG challenge to get the Chauchat. I'm only 5 or 6 kills with the Lewis Gun away.

The Lewis Gun has grown on me. I'm not very good when trying to use the telescopic sight, but if you go prone you don't really need to. The thing is a laser with the bipod extended. Just point and shoot. And the huge magazine is great for me because I am not the world's best shot.

I really wish they hadn't gone so overboard on their buff with the LMG's. This is WW1, they should not be near as accurate as they are. When they have the same range/accuracy as a rifle, we have a problem

I earned the chauchat in my very first game did the Verdun op, once we were in the fort, found a group of teammates, laid down the ammo, got the 75 resupply within 3 min. Had the 50(?) kills with the Lewis gun by the end of the round.

Support is my bread and butter. Now the real grind for the other guns start. I'm horrible with the assault class so that's going to be miserable

IMO, the new shotgun, support, scout, and medic class guns were all fun and just the right amount of challenging to unlock.

The Ribeyrolles challenge can shove a fist up its own arse. frick that challenge. Took me forever and had to change the way I play just to get it. I'm a completionist so I had to do it but I honestly didn't even enjoy myself getting those headshots

I think I'm like rank 2 on assault, maybe 3 on medic. All I play is support while defending and play as a mobile counter-sniper with the Martini Henry while attacking.

Mg 15 suppressive is an absolute beast when you set up in the right spots. Chauchat as a mobile assault/front line support.

I'm a pretty even player. I think I'm between 13-18 ranking for all my classes (excluding calvary )

This is my support gun as well. My 3rd most used gun behind the Selbstlader and Model 10-A Hunter. There's no better feeling than throwing down that bipod and out-shooting snipers with it

Frontlines is my absolute favorite mode to play on now. It captures the back and forth momentum and the absolute meat grinder of WW1 so well

(Finally) unlocked the Chauchat last night. I like everything about it, except the magazine size. As a support player, I like to find a spot along the enemy's approach to an objective with a good sightline and set up with bipod extended. If I pick my position correctly, I'll run through a 20-round mag long before I'll run out of targets.

I can't figure out how people use the LMG's like assault rifles to such devastating effect. Any time I try to fire from the hip with them, I don't hit anything. The spread is just too great.

Switch from auto to semi auto. Pull trigger for each shot. Works well with the bar and the chauchet. Not so much with the big magazine guns like mg15 as the damage output is lower.
