I know everyone has their hobbies but I don't understand having that much of a PC and not using it for gaming.
I mean once I have some stuff I am happy with I play games on it instead of upgrading all of the time to time.
I do like upgrading but I like playing games more. After upgrading my Mobo and GPU last month and dealing with the headache of downloading my library and programs again I don't feel like doing that for a while. It's much more fun to me to play games than build over and over again for a benchmark.
Like I said though...to each their own.

Right now I like both but I am new to building so that may change. I am starting to think coyote might should take a career in testing and benchmarks or something.

I really enjoy the building aspect. I still game but I have my own business and I coach AAU basketball so I don't have a lot of free time for gaming. Probably 5 hours in a good week. Still, when I want to game I know I have a build that will play anything I want at any setting I want.
My second build has now become a 2600K with 6950s in Crossfire so I guess it can probably handle just about anything I throw at it as well.

I get what you are saying but at the same time one 680 will run any current game in 1080p no problem. Instead you have $1000 in video cards for 5 hours per week of gaming. I just can't grasp that is all because my end goal when I built my PC was merely to play games. I have upgraded here and there but never something so big that it got in the way of me not being able to play for maybe longer than a day.
Like I said to each their own and I am certainly not judging what someone does with their money and time because it has no effect on me. Just trying to understand the motivation behind it a little more is all. Curious if I am missing out on something.
FWIW I run my own business too but not married with kids so no AAU Bball to coach. Guess that's why I have time to play more so than some.

Point taken. I'm playing at 1440p and the end game is to go to multiple monitors as the price continues to drop on them.
My son is in college so I don't have a kid on the team. I just love the game and enjoy coaching. Parents appreciate it when the coaches don't have a kid on the team.

Ahh...gotcha. I may switch to 1440p soon. I have been looking but am in no real hurry. 1080p still looks sharp to me. I do want a new GPU (will be my 4th one in 8 months) but haven't pulled the trigger on one yet because I am kind of waiting to see what's new coming out.

Man, not around here. I sponsored a pee wee football league once and the people also asked me to help coach a team. I did it because I figured it would be a good way to meet new clients. Not at all because the parents were always on my nuts about why little Johnny only got to play one quarter. They got pissed when I told him it was because he didn't listen and was too busy picking flowers during practice instead of learning the plays.
One parent got mad at me because I made her son run extra to try and discipline him some. She complained to the damn league about it. Never doing that shite again.
ETA When I say pee wee they were in pads and in the 11-12 age so it's not like I was making 5 and 6 year olds run.

I have a company that does cabling and environment building in data centers. We also still do some home automation and audio/video installation but the focus of the business is now on the commercial data center side.

That's coaching for you.
the 1440p sounds enticing but I just got to 1080p this week so i will take my time. I want to see a comparison of the 2 but I don't have a 1440p screen to look at it on

I coach a 17U team this year. We have 3-4 players who have a good chance to play D1 college basketball. Next year we'll drop down to 16U and build a core group to take through 16U and 17U again. The parents tend to be more appreciative as the players get older. Their expectations are more reasonable and they know that we have the ability to put their sons in front of college coaches in the NCAA certified period (April & July).
Don't get me wrong though. Some of the parents are still crazy.

Yea AAU is a different animal than younger leagues. It's just crazy to me how entitled those little kids were and how much the parents sheltered them.
Anyway...back on topic.

I like the tech behind the games more than the games. Really not much of a gamer anymore. I love new tech and building rigs with the latest and greatest.
Like you stated.. to each their own.
ETA:
I also see a lot of the
1440 is 30% more pixels. 1/3 more pixels than 1080 displays. When you have to process that amount of pixels, you need the extra power to turn up eye candy and maintain 60fps.
Put it this way.
1 Titan @ +100 core and memory OC was only getting me 28-35FPS in Crysis 3 @ 1440 with AA just @ 4x.
2 Titans stock pushes the 60FPS with 8x AA @ 1440
Just food for thought.
