Yeah it's Cowboy... I love his videos, they've been helpful so far

I'm through the first 3 chapters, looks like have done 9 out of the 20 main missions. I do all the side missions and stuff too.
I'm crushing it compared to Nioh 1. That's mostly due to my Nioh 1 experience of course, but I've definitely forced myself to get better. In Nioh 1 I pretty much just put a Spear on Middle stance and beat the whole game like that, only used other weapons for lulz occasionally.
This time around I actually forced myself to learn how to switch stances effectively and now do it without thinking about it. I'm also rocking the Odachi as my main now and it's sick. Mid stance for wide sweeping strikes great for crowd control. High stance for big overhead smashes, great for one on one battles with tougher mobs. I keep a much faster weapon on my second slot, just in case I run into a mob that speed is most effective against.
The only thing I haven't bothered with is the Feral/Phantom forms. I found them very trash compared to Brute. Brute seems easiest to do the burst counter with and then in Yokai form you just attack like mad, no gimmicks.
I also finally figured out how to effectively stagger Yokai. They never really explained it 100% clearly. In Nioh 1 you staggered them sorta automatically when you ran them out of Ki but that really doesn't work in Nioh 2. I found that I'd get them to what appears to out but they never would reliably stagger for you to get a grapple off. They sorta wobble around when you hit them in that state which is ok, but still not as good as a grapple. The key is you gotta use a Yokai ability or a Burst counter against them when they are low'ish on Ki, that'll reliably stagger them. Regular attacks (especially on critical areas) can wear their Ki meters down then you save a Yokai ability or a burst counter to finish off the last of their Ki and initiate a stagger so you can grapple.
I've found the humanoid bosses thus far extremely easy. Beating them all in 1-2 tries. The big Yokai bosses can be a bit more tricky. The snake and the weasel definitely took me at least 4-5 tries each.

Aside from getting locks of hair, the only way to get Ninjutsu and Omnyo skill points is by using Ninjutsu and Omnyo. For Omnyo, I'd suggest unlocking something like Fire Shot first and then constantly spam it to get Omnyo skill points to unlock other stuff. You seem to get skill points more quickly using offensive Ninjutsu or Omnyo as opposed to buffs/debuffs.
ETA: This advice is for Nioh 2.
ETAA: My advice for both is to keep equipment weight below 70%.

frick I forgot how satisfying Nioh is

Finished, fun game.
I found some of the boss fights to be pretty difficult but I was dual swords and light armor A, so I can see getting one hit but still it's somewhat aggravating. Ended with MS armor, but strange you can't wear it all unless you want a C grade.
I don't use items in general, but fyi
summoner's candle gets your amrita back when you die. Found that out way late, cost me 2-3 levels nbd.
Couple Dojo missions are crazy hard. Ninja dojo guys spams ninja, so spam him with the spear.
Soul matching is a good game concept, and I did it, but it's way expensive in the first play through. Maybe it's a NG plus thing.
Long range weapons zoom is R3. Hand cannon is fun.

Yeah soul matching is a ng+ thing imo

Starting Nioh 2 directly after ~450 hours in Nioh was a bad idea. I have one main mission left in the 5th region and it's so difficult to get motivated to get my arse to NG+ to start finalizing my build.
Doesn't help that the mission in question is High-Spirited Demon
Need to push through and finish before the first DLC drops.

You've got time... Still more than 2 months to the first DLC unfortunately.
All I still have is to get to the level cap (currently at 294, but ran out of the amrita boost sake, so have to farm that), and re roll some gear and I'm done until the end of July

Did you already do all the new content that dropped in patch 1.09?
Posted on 5/19/20 at 5:02 pm to Sl0thstronautEsq
Yeah, it was only a handful of missions right? Most were pretty short tbh (like at least 3 were just a single arena with multiple bosses)
Posted on 5/20/20 at 10:45 am to Tigerfan7218
Yeah, but I think there's one Twilight mission that may not have appeared in the rotation yet (as of either two days ago or yesterday afternoon).

I die so much. I eventually beat the bosses but it takes an hour or so.

Killed some cat boss thing on my first try. Game is starting to feel more natural.
Posted on 5/28/20 at 5:07 pm to Mystictiger
I don't remember a cat boss... are you talking about the ferret looking thing? The boss you fight at the end of the woods/river level?
Posted on 5/28/20 at 6:05 pm to PEPE
Yeah, I wasn’t sure what it was but Tokichiro says “here kitty kitty kitty...” so I figured it was some cat thing. But it only took me one try.
Posted on 5/28/20 at 6:09 pm to Mystictiger
Oh yeah, you're right he does say that. Maybe it was supposed to be feline in nature, but it certainly looked more weasel like.
Posted on 5/28/20 at 6:16 pm to PEPE
Yeah the literal translation of Kamaitachi is (loosely) "sickle weasel"
