Halo being dead now is like me losing a puppy.
I'm so god damn sad about it.

Why did this take so long to release on XBOX but was out on Windows at launch or close to on PC?
Things like that piss me off with the gaming industry.
Because no one really expected this game to make any money. They were throwing a bone to the creator of the series and the first game only really sold anything on PS3. Lots of Japanese games skip Xbox because there's no reason to release it on that platform. You cover your bases with PC if you want wider appeal.
That said, game was so popular that they have completely flipped around plans by doing a DLC and porting the game to X1. It's something that was borne out of its success because they ended up making a lot more than expected.

those games died after their original trilogies
I know what you meant to imply here, but Halo: Reach is the best of the series.
Halo died when 343 had to take it over. They have ruined it. The lore is so convoluted and disjointed now. It's just sad.

I always forget about Reach. It was a good game
Yes, I meant after 343 took over. frick them

just bought this. looking forward to see what the hype is about.
really going in blind, have avoided spoilers, and not real sure what to expect

Just play and enjoy it. You'll unlock chapter select at one point, so you can go back and replay anything you might have missed. That said, there are several very meaningful side quests. Don't hesitate to go out and explore.

Also, learn how to evade, counter and combo.

Also, play mostly main story until you get fast travel. Makes travel for sidequests much more bearable

One of the coolest side quests is the throwback to the original Nier.

I ended up skipping a lot of the sidequests because the story was so damn good I just had to keep seeing what happened next.
Spoilers-C/D
Holy shite this game is dark. I think it's the most hopeless ending I've ever seen. There were some insanely deep AI concepts in there. The purpose of the androids being to apply evolutionary pressure on the machines so they could continue to evolve and learn reminded me of google's deepmind that basically learned chess by playing against itself trillions of times. It split its 'mind' into 2, and got better through conflict with itself. I was hoping that the war would come to an end in one of the endings, but without that artificial war then the machines on both sides would have no purpose and would invariably sink into madness. Game is a work of art.
