Nier was pretty inventive and combined several elements of certain genres to create a real solid game. However, it really was kind of whacky and played on its uniqueness a bit too much, especially with 9S’s battle mechanics.
KT’s Ninja Gaiden Black far outclasses Nier and it was made almost 15 years ago.

It's honestly splitting hairs. I absolutely hate Smash Brothers, have from the beginning, but I can obviously see how big of a following it has, one of Nintendo's marquee franchises, so I'm obviously not going to consider it overrated. Just not my thing.

What review is that? The only negative review I read was from a guy who didn't even play past Route A.

The virus isn't from the machines. The virus is set off from within the Android system to kill all of the androids off once they start figuring out that the humans are dead and they're being manipulated. It's a never ending cycle of the androids being created, fed a lie about humanity, slowly figuring it out, and then intentionally being killed by the virus.
2B was actually a 2E unit and was designed to destroy 9S every time he got too close to the truth. This is heavily hinted at when she's crying at the end of the A playthrough as she kills 9S and is part of why she tries to act distant towards him.
This all ties into the E ending where the Pods decide to break the cycle and upload your memories into android bodies instead of wiping them.

Well..it far outclasses every action game in history in terms of gameplay. This is nothing new

I didn't read your whole post because I haven't completed the game. But so far I like it better than Zelda and Horizon.

I think I would say I liked Zelda better than Horizon but that may just be because Zelda is fresh in my mind. Horizon does have a much better story than either game though. Horizon's main story is I think one of the best video game stories of this gen.

I honestly didn't finish Horizon to know the whole story. I just seem to enjoy the gameplay more in Nier. I'll one day finish Horizon.

Nier was easily my GOTY for 2017
I'm fixing to finish the original on 360. Probably the best story that nobody has heard of. really wish we'd get a remake
