If you haven't had your fill of Xbox 720 rumors and speculations, new reports of the Durango's internals suggest some heavy hardware for Microsoft's next console.
Via Computer and Video Games, the latest issue of Britain's Xbox World magazine reveals that developers received Durango devkits last month, purportedly packing a 16-core IBM Power PC CPU and a GPU similar to AMD's Radeon HD 7000-series graphics cards.

And it also makes julienne fries!

The extra processors would offer mind blowing graphics and enough firepower to support Microsoft's next gen of Kinect games. If this is the case, then Xbox 720 will have the capability to have its motion controllers and sensors details track players to the fingertips.
The Xbox 720 new processors will make running shaders that render 3D objects a breeze. The graphics will look more realistic and loading time would be greatly minimized. It is rumored that the console will support a 3D display for full 1080p HD graphics. To compete with Nintendo's Wii U revolutionary controllers, Microsoft may be launching a touchscreen controller of their own which also serves as a remote control and web browser.

16 is a crazy amount...I'll believe it when I see it debut.
I'll agree with you because I have zero knowledge on that subject. I'm just excited to see kickstarter getting involved and having some more games like Monkey Island coming back.

As a fan, I see 16 cores and think "Badass!", but as a Software Engineer, I think that's an awful idea and get a headache thinking about it. One of the downfalls of development for the PS3 is writing software for the Cell processor because of its use of so many cores. 16 cores? That's... outrageous. Microsoft better have the best SDK ever in place with it for it to not be an issue.

isn't 16 cpu cores a little overkill?

maybe right now.. but they are most likely thinking about 10 years from now

If I hadn't been able to buy used games I would've never bought ME1. Which of course got me hooked on the series. Of course I had my soul destroyed by the ending of ME3 so maybe this is a good idea.

I guess. If the rumors are true the video card is equivalent to about a $80 to $100 card that is available for PC's now. There are far more powerful video cards already available, so I don't know about the whole mindblowing graphics thing.

All console graphics cards are equivalent to underpowered but decent cards by the current standards to keep the size and price down. A GTX 680Ti is not logical. Every console on the market is pushing a watered down version of what was out a year before its release. That's just the nature of the whole thing. Its why they can sell them at low prices because the top graphics cards alone are $500.
