Sony and Microsoft lost money on each console they sold for a while. They will probably cost $500 to $600 next generation, and they will lose money again. They can get some pretty serious hardware in the machine at that cost.

I'm going to go with the waiting approach this time around. I really don't feel that there are enough features to justify an entirely new console unless MS, SONY, etc really blow us out of the water at the reveals. Hopefully they continue to develop for the 360, PS3 after the next-gen launches but that is unrealistic.

The sad thing is you guys dont know how bad console graphics are compared to what they could be.
Who's "you guys"? I have a PC and I primarily play on that, not my console.

Hulkklogan you need to learn how to read thread replies. I didn't know your mom named you "You Guys".

You replied to my post and said "you guys". You obviously lumped me in there with people that think console graphics compare to PC graphics.

The graphics won't take a massive leap forward but a lot of other things will. Lighting, animation, physics, draw distance detail, and destructible environments will all improve.

They are going to have to be this price if they really want to amp up the graphics and that's just too damn much if all you're getting is a boost in graphics.
And honestly, I guess I can see the appeal of 3D but that's really the only thing it seems that these new consoles can hang their hat on. I don't think motion technology is ever going to take off on 360 and PS like it did on the Wii because it's a different market. I sure as hell don't want to have to be standing up and moving around every game I play.

And you're going to pay 500-600 just for that? Surely not I. Just make better games for the current systems and wait til 2013-2014 to really make those consoles worthwhile.

Yeah, besides the Wii U with the new big screen controllers, I don't really see what they would push as a big reason to get it besides better graphics. I plan on having this 360 for a couple more years.
The only reason I'd think about a PS4 is because I haven't owned anything Sony since PS2.
I play a shite load of PC games, and if you've only played console games it's really hard to understand how outdated the PS3 and 360 are. Whenever the 360 came out, the hardware was slightly outdated. You can only imagine now how outdated all these consoles are now. It's bad.

So what you're saying is you don't approve of gameplay improvements.
Well... cool.

So 2013-2014 is the magic year to make the systems worth it. The 360 and PS3 are outdated as frick right now in terms of hardware. You aren't getting anything better on either one of those systems.

Yeah, but in all honesty, that's not the majority of people. IDK the numbers, but I'm sure console owners greatly outweigh PC gamers.

I mean IDK what the magic year is, but just rushing out a PS4 in a year when it's going to so overpriced without offering any real advantages over the PS3.
Hardcore gamers will jizz all over it and get it the day it comes out, but casual gamers aren't going to spend that cash just to upgrade graphics. Whether you think they are outdated or not, they still look great even though they can always get better.

I dont know who you are and dont give a frick really. Im not going to name every person Im refering to by name. If you arent smart enough to figure out I wasnt refering to you that sounds like a personal problem.

Sorry you don't know how to follow message board etiquette to be clear to whom you're speaking to.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but did not MS drop support of the Xbox when the 360 came out? I think you could still play online on the Xbox, but no new games were published once the 360 came out. So if MS follows suit, once Xbox #3 comes out, no new games for the 360.
However, Sony supported the PS2 for quite a few years even after the PS3 was released, meaning games were still published for the PS2.
This is what I understand. If both companies follow suit again (and that's an IF), then we would still get new games for the PS3 but not the 360.
Thoughts?

maybe for a year but it wasn't long at all.

I think you're right. MS "forced" people into the 360.
Posted on 7/6/11 at 2:33 pm to Hulkklogan
I don't think MS will do that again. The 360 will still be profitable when the next Xbox comes out. The 1st Xbox was not very profitable, which is why they forced the 360.

the very last original xbox game released was Madden '09. But PS2 systems and games are still being made. I know Madden '12 will be coming to PS2

3D technology is pretty cool, IMO and could be a huge part of next gen systems.
If the next PS3 and 360 come out in 2013, that will be 7 to 8 years between systems. Computer hardware evolves a good bit every single year. YOu can expect a big difference.
By shoddy i mean that 3D Tv's and possible games systems's ability to effectively utilize 3D is still in its early stages
