The thing is the OG release looks better than what you are playing. All of the ports are worse visually than the original. The actual goal of that mod was to restore it to how it was before it all got "mushed" on later ports.
But I get that.

It took me a bit to get the feel of the graphical style, then when I realized they were moving the character sprites around on top of static images like Dragoon did, it all made sense to me.

Yep. I actually miss that type of art. Hand drawn backgrounds.

FF9 25th anniversary website
Those figures for garnet and zidane have never been released before. That’s also a frick ton of merch for ff9. If y’all recall the ff7 remake announcement was made public in much the same way. IMO this, the nvidia leak, the tweet announcing it being the final lines of “spoilers” letter at the end, this has to be coming.
I mean they’re making a prequel children’s book about vivi and his grandad ending right before the game starts
I’m totes buying that

I just got it on my phone emulator, looking forward to trying it

They put it on the PS store a couple years ago. I beat it last year, it was a hell of a fun time. Still sucked at the additions timing as an adult lol
It was a lot longer than I remembered as well. Think I was around 60 hours

It’s pretty good. You’ve said before you enjoy my taste in games. I think you’ll fine it pretty good for what it is

That flashback cinematic on disc 4 that looked at the original Dragoon team going up against the big bad was so awesome that I bought another PS1 memory card just to keep that save immediately before triggering the cinematic so I could go back and rewatch it.

SQE continues to face bad news in cancellations for very public facing projects in their attempt to pivot and a major activist investor has taken a 5% stake. Could end up being good or bad for us. I wouldn’t be shocked to see this cancelled. The only thing that’s going to be locked in for them for 100% sure is ff7 remake 3 that money has been budgeted and spent for all purposes since they green lit a trilogy. I wouldn’t even put KH4 I’d put at 100% but only like 85%

I can't even remember the last SQE game I played all the way through. I have FFT on the iPad, but it's just not the same. I haven't been able to get into that, or Tactics Ogre on the Switch. (Obviously a different studio)

Im no geniuse game executive cyborg but just like how all the fans repeatedly beg capcom to bring back dino crisis in their surveys they do all the time, I see much much of the same sentiment regarding SQE for parasite eve. The guy who wrote the book has publicly said he would happily partner with them again now the rights deal lapsed.
What the frick do I know though
I think a lot of these companies keep certain franchises in a perpetual break in terms of crisis mode which fricking sucks. It has been pretty much publicly made known Bloodbourne is this for Sonys case for example.

It's interesting to me that in Hollywood, all they can do is reboots and remakes, even when the public is overwhelmingly against the practice.
Meanwhile, in video game land, fans are clamoring for trips down memory lane, practically begging for HD remasters and re-releases of favorite games (*ahem* Chrono Trigger) and it's like pulling teeth to get the publishers/developers to even consider doing some of them.

In some cases you could be charitable and say it’s a FF8 situation where they somehow just literally lost all the entire games files. I think this is very very rare circumstances though and it’s mostly like I said above, break in case of emergencies

I know there can be some odd cases where there's legal issues with the property rights, the dev doesn't exist any longer, etc., but in a world where FF8 has been ported around to every conceivable console since the PS1, it strikes me as odd when they just shrug and move on. Clearly SOMEBODY has the technical kung fu to go back and reverse engineer the whole thing.
I'd love to see someone pick up Pandemic Studios' Mercenaries series. An HD remaster of the original on the Xbox/PS2 game.

As far as FF8 everything including SQEs own “remaster” a few years back is all entirely emulation. So it would be hard to actually do anything with it at its roots. I do largely agree with your point though

There is speculation and rumors abound that this is actually going to make its first appearance at summer games fest on June 6. I really hope so because I love FF9 and SQE as a company badly needs something for people to get excited for
