The Call of Duty XP event in Los Angeles gave attendees the first look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer details, as well as tournaments, real-life map recreations, and more. We were also treated to details of the upcoming limited Hardened Edition.
Here's what's inside:
-Modern Warfare 3 game with unique disc art
-1 year Call of Duty Elite Premium Membership, which includes all future Call of Duty MW3 downloadable content (including map packs)
-Special Founder status in Call of Duty Elite. Includes a special in-game emblem, playercard, weapon camo, clan XP boost, and more exclusive benefits
-Exclusive Special Ops Juggernaut Xbox Live avatar outfit
-Limited Edition, 100-page collectible field journal chronicling the entire saga with authentic military sketches, diagrams, and written entries
-All in a collectible steelbook case
LINK
This seems like a no-brainer.

So you pay $100 and get all DLC free?

And you get it in monthly increments instead of all at once every quarter.
You get two maps a month, then the last map the third month instead of waiting three months for the whole five map package.

If they come out with 4 map packs like some are claiming, then you will save $20 if you buy the hardened edition and planned on buying all map packs.

This seems like it would be a huge advantage on the double xp map pack release weekends against non-elite randoms.

I love map packs, so that's the only thing that has me seriously considering the Hardened Edition.

Damn, that's pretty tempting right there.

And BTW, 360 gets the packs first as usual.

Evem if they only did three map packs, that would still mean you only paid $5 for a year subscription to elite and you would have permamnant "founder status" on you account.

I wonder what it will be after this? I was lucky enough to get in on the Beta and besides unique challenges that they offer and the chance to win prizes, it's honestly just a souped up version of your player card. Don't get me wrong, it's nice, but not worth paying for...at least not yet. But this is only the Beta so who knows what the feedback will change.

so for an extra 40 bucks, you only get the map packs for a year?
after that, you have to either re-up your membership or buy the maps individually?
not sure how i feel about that if so
eta: also, if this hardened edition is popular, and game developers see how willing we are to pay 100 bucks for a game, FOL's

It works out for MW3, at least. Assuming they do four packs in a calendar year of the game, and you get the packs in monthly increments, for me that's kinda worth it.
As far as what happens after that year, well I guess it's up to each individual to see if they liked how it worked when they had Elite and monthly map addions.
ETA: I also read that DLC will be more than just maps, as well. I don't know what that means, but I'm guessing maybe extra maps for survival/spec ops.

You get all the DLC for MW3. If your subscription expires, the DLC is still yours to keep.

i sure hope the retailers start a bidding war for buyers with the bonus gift cards, etc.
history says they usually only do it on the standard versions though, so we'll have to see
i wouldnt mind getting a 20 dollar amazon gift card for preordering the hardened edition
eta: just noticed that there is already a 10 dollar gift card for preordering MW3 standard edition

FWIW, BF3 launches with four free throwback maps if you preorder the Limited Edition. So, the LE is the same as a regular copy, costs the same, but has four free maps. FYI.

the way i take it, xbox gets content in january. playstation won't see that content til february while xbox gets new content that february. then playstation get that content in march and so on. does that make sense. i know it's not confirmed but that's just a theory/prediction.
