Monster Hunter Stories 2

I really want to like this game, but the there are design choices that bug me. Instead of making a JRPG set in the Monster Hunter World, they've attempted to retrofit monster hunter into a JRPG, meaning there is practically no such thing as "short battles." It has me skipping the majority of the monster battles in the overworld because they drag so often, and I'm only on the second town.
Secondly, the entire structure of the game seems to be, go to a town, talk to NPC, get tasked with killing a monster, repeat four or five times, progress story. Repeat in new town. Again, getting very very old.

I have played a handful of them. The hunter genre is not really my cup of tea.
This is more like Pokemon than a proper Monster Hunter. It tries too hard to emulate it's big brother to it's detriment I think. That and it has a very derivative gameplay loop.

at least it has a free demo. I do like that it is crystal clear where you need to go. I like that it is a JRPG. I like the map in the right corner or else I would get lost.
the egg things are weird so far they are all not liked by the monstie? that judges them.
The gameplay gives me vertigo until I get used to it. it is different.
the sidequests look overwhelming. I am just doing the yellow exclamation point ones for now.

it isn't bad. I am waiting for the new dragon quest RPG and skyward sword.
I have found that most games with demos I end up buying. I did not like Bravely Default and the new Mana game is out and it is so old school I don't want to play it. yet there was a 3D Mana that i played until the end.

It's a good time for jrpgs. Definitely going to have to manage my time.
