Fans who have Minecraft for the Xbox 360 know very well how far it lags behind the PC version. While PC players have had the Starvation Food System in place since September 2011, the Xbox game has yet to include such features. To make amends for the long wait, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition developer 4J Studios is contemplating an extra update for the game, to be released between its scheduled XBLA update windows. News from 4J Studios seems to imply that the next update will finally add the Starvation Food System, as well as the Endermen and Cave Spider mobs. Since Cave Spiders commonly spawn in abandoned mineshafts, we can assume that unique structures are finally making their way to consoles – which means our villager friends may not be far behind. While it’s great news, that update will likely be a month away. 4J Studios would like to shoot console gamers a bonus update which would likely include several new biomes and a few crafting options (the ability to farm animals on Xbox would be nice, too). With console players having to deal with a finite amount of in-game space, the chance to change the usual scenery with a jungle or mushroom biome here and there would surely be appreciated. @thegaminglemon We’re considering releasing an update between 1.8.2 and 1.2.3 to reduce the time people have to wait for the new features. — 4J Studios (@4JStudios) September 9, 2012 The next scheduled update is still “weeks away” according to 4J Studios, but will include the popular Creative Game Mode. In this, players can fly around and place any type of block or item they wish, allowing people mainly interested in building to do so without having to spend hours mining away for minerals. Additionally, each block breaks in one hit, making creating and removing blocks an easy process for the gamer. If 4J Studios manages to treat console gamers to two updates within the next month or so, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a renewed burst of players hopping back on to consoles. Since there are no enchanting tables in the upcoming update, 4J Studios have delayed adding Experience orbs yet, noting that an experience system without enchantments is a pretty pointless endeavor. Granted, players could level themselves up to prepare for the eventual release of enchanting tables, but that’s a bit of a stretch. Either way, we’re just excited to see a solid flow of content heading towards Minecraft for Xbox 360.

I really wonder what's so hard for them just to catch the Xbox version up in one huge update. I am no programmer obviously so I may be over simplifying it but it just seems since they know where they need to be that they would put all hands on deck and get it there.

I was wondering the same thing...the code is there, all they need to do is convert it from Java to C. Apparently it's quite a task.
The 1.8 update for the 360 should be out in the next few weeks, and I'm interested to see how certain naturally generated features are implemented, such as ravines, strongholds, and abandoned mine shafts.
In the PC version, the worlds are essentially limitless, so you can just wander around and generate new chunks until you stumble upon the aforementioned features. In the 360 version, however, the worlds are limited in size - so, if they don't alter the code, then the chances seem pretty high that you could generate a world that wouldn't include a ravine, mine shaft, stronghold, or village.
If they can get beta 1.8 out before the end of the month, then they may be able to get 1.0/1.2 out within the next few months. 1.8 seems like it would be more of a technical challenge compared to later updates, due to the changes to terrain generation and combat. 1.4 will be out for the PC in mid October, which will be big. If 4J can bring the 360 version to 1.2 before the end of the year, then they really won't be that far behind.

no clue, this one has a lot of shite so I'm happy.
New Mobs: Endermen, SilverFish, and Cave Spiders
New Blocks: Stone Brick, Brick Slabs and & Stairs, Fence Gates, Glass Panes, and Iron Bars
New Generated Structures: NPC Villages, Strongholds, MineShafts, and Ravines.
Biome Changes: Rivers Flow Between Biomes, Jungle/Swamp Biome, Mushroom Biome, and Mountain Biome
Other Major Changes: Creative Mode, Hunger/Starvation Bar, Sprinting, Eating Animation, Stackable Food, Rotten Flesh, Melons, Raw & Cooked Chicken, and Beef/Steak. Plus bug/glitch fixes.
* Sprinting will be the left analog stick/toggle. Camera view changes will be somehow on the d-pad.
*Nope I don't know what most of that shite is or of you will have to start a new world for the new structures to generate.
...but I has an excitement.
Update is being called the "Adventure Update"

You will have to start a new world for the new biomes and structures. I'm wondering though, since the worlds are finite, if there's a chance that you could generate a new world without features like ravines, villages, or mine shafts.
If they didn't alter the code, then it seems likely that even a newly generated world could be devoid of some of those features.
