It’s a long track record of mismanagement.

Compare output under Nintendo versus under Microsoft.

It’s a fine example.

Rare was never owned by Nintendo. You don't know what you're talking about.

Amazing. You literally tried to compare Rare output "under Nintendo" to output "under Microsoft," and then followed that up by trying to claim I'm delusional. Your entire premise is false, and you've doubled down on it twice.

ETA: A five-second web search would show you that your statement above is false. Rare was NEVER owned by Nintendo.

Rare was closely aligned with Nintendo. A “second party” studio that was routinely promoted by Nintendo in their press releases/treehouses back in the 90s and was given the ability to produce Nintendo IP such as donkey Kong country.

The relationship was very close and they were very much intertwined.

You fight like a cornered wounded animal for a corporation that doesn’t even know you exist. It’s amusing.

They obviously weren't going to keep making Donkey Kong games for Microsoft.

What you are saying is stupid, and you have nothing to support it.

Because their relationship with Nintendo ended. And Microsoft decided to do frick all with them upon buying them.

I see figures citing a 49% ownership of rare by Nintendo during their time together. Not full ownership but strong business ties. And they worked much better together.

This is completely false. Rare has been making games the entire time they've been at Microsoft. You keep doubling down on a false statement.

Nintendo didn't even make an effort to buy them when they were seeking buyers. It was a bidding war between Activision and Microsoft.

Phil Spencer was hailed by many. Dude had no clue what he was doing. Destroyed Xbox after a brief resurrection. Xbox hasn’t released shite in years. We have waited for fable for like 10 years and now no hype for that. Idk if that is even being released?

It's coming out in February 2027. Most recent preview of it was pretty solid.

A looser partnership with Nintendo yielded far better results than a direct ownership by Microsoft.

If anything, you’ve been working overtime to highlight that rare was a kickass independent studio that was trusted to handle Nintendo ip with no major ties and it was followed up with what? Sea of thieves? Perfect dark zero? Awesome.

Sea of Thieves is a pretty popular game. I don't like it, and you obviously don't like it either, but claiming they haven't been getting results is simply not supported by reality. They're about to port it to Switch 2 and mobile.

People still remember goldeneye. Donkey Kong country. Banjo Kazooie.

They won’t remember sea of thieves in 20 years.

Industry Insiders are whispering to me that Bethesda/Zenimax studios are gone except for anyone making Fallout or Elder Scrolls.

We've already seen id Software is gone from their jobs page...

XBOX is looking to cut anything they can.

This seems hard to believe. They're going to shut down Doom, Starfield, Wolfenstein, and the team that just put out that awesome Indiana Jones game? And stop working on the Blade IP with Marvel? Grummz usually has pretty good info, but I'm going to need to see this to believe it. Might be a little bloat there that could be combined and streamlined, but shutting down everything but Fallout and Elder Scrolls seems wild.

That's nice, but that changes nothing. Sea of Thieves is a very popular game, and has been for a number of years now. It's an absolute success. Claiming Microsoft has "done nothing with Rare" is a moronic take not based in reality.

Enjoy watching Asha the angel of death guillotining all those successful well managed studios that are so financially viable.

All I've seen so far is studios trying to go woke getting shut down. Are the successful well-managed studios in the room with us now?

ETA: By all indications, Microsoft has been giving studios free reign to make what they wanted to make. These studios chose poorly.

A broken clock is right twice a day. Microsoft snatched up Rare right as the people who made that company what it was left for greener pastures, and they have done frick all until achieving a moderate level of success with Sea of Thieves.
