Damn that’s sad for Starfield but deserved, such a letdown.

It will rebound. I've been playing a good bit lately and it's a way better state and they will continue to improve it.

yeah it was such a massive success that they're throwing in the towel and shifting the entire Xbox Division's approach to business.

yeah, they're enjoying it so much, they're leaving in droves.
It's a single player game. Most people move on once they've beaten single player games.

barely anyone is watching Starfield
Because they're playing it. The 24-hour peak for Starfield on steam is still nearly 10,000 players and you're trying to tout 350 people WATCHING Spider-Man 2? Ridiculous.

If they are doing this, it isn't because Starfield was a failure. It wasn't a failure by any metric.
The irony in all of this is, if these rumors are true, then it appears perhaps the FTC was right that MS buying ABK would result in less competition. Just in favor of Sony instead of MS.

When the expansion drops the user numbers will skyrocket again.

This actually supports my point. I honestly find those numbers hard to believe. That is a massive player base for a game with no multiplayer that's been out since September. The steam numbers you shared seemed more realistic to me.

It was a failure when factoring in hype, player expectations, financial projections, and predicted impact on the industry. ABK went from savior to albatross REAL quick

ya bro we've all read this same comment 500x on reddit. MS has no one to blame but themselves

It hasn't been a failure by any metric. It's a resounding success and apparently still sees 1.7M DAILY users according to numbers others have posted in this thread (to be fair, I find those numbers hard to believe). It's impossible to view that as a failure by any stretch of the imagination and it's hard to imagine why they would need to put a game that popular and successful on other platforms.

I don't frequent reddit, but yes MS has only themselves to blame if these rumors are true. Would be a completely unsupportable decision.

as of this post and a so-called "24-hour peak player count" sits at 10,000....
36 people are on Twitch streaming it with 166 viewers....
10,000 players a day.... only 36 players streaming it. something isn't adding up with that ratio for a game that's touted as a "resounding success".
Posted on 2/6/24 at 11:57 am to finchmeister08
Elder Scrolls has more players.

Is a game like Starfield good for streaming? I love Bethesda games but I don't think I would ever watch someone play one.
Starfield is going to have the same life cycle that Fallout 4 did. Very polarizing at the start, lot's of people falling off, and then it finds new life and kind of never dies. Fallout 4 community is still strong. So in that sense, it won't be a failure, but to Carson's point, the hype this got definitely lends itself to classifying Starfield as a disappointment out of the gate.
I love the game, but I get the criticisms of it. I stopped playing for months because I was bored.

Skyrim is one of the most popular games of all time. If you're expecting every Bethesda release to do as good as Skyrim, then I submit that your expectations are unrealistic.

It is nonsensical for them to throw in the towel right as everything they've been doing for multiple years now starts to bear fruit.
Define throwing in the towel. If MS is is ditching consoles, and thats still a big if, and realigning to focus on IPs and the development of Game Pass as bigger gaming platform is that really throwing in the towel?

If they're putting their exclusives on PlayStation, that's throwing in the towel.

That’s a fanboy take, they would be making more money.
Hardware isn’t their focus and hasn’t been for a long time.

I disagree. I believe they will be making less money. Sure, they will sell more copies of games, but that does not mean they will be making more money overall.
Many will abandon the Xbox brand and ecosystem if these rumors are true, and, as has clearly been stated in this thread, PlayStation users are not likely to run to purchase Microsoft's first party games. The risks here will not outweigh the reward. This would be a desperation play by a brand that has no reason to be desperate.

Maybe if Gamepass shows up on PS. I dont think there will be a sudden huge migration from Xbox to PS5 just with a switch to 1st party games being available to purchase on PS5. Making them day one available, having Game Pass available, of course ditching the console market could of course all make what you are saying more likely.

If the games are worth a shite they will....why not?
As someone who's bulk of their digital library is in XBox I have concerns about the future but I'm not ready to say this is all doom and gloom.

If the rumors are true, they're going to remove day one drops on Game Pass. Doing that while also putting games on PlayStation is a death sentence for Xbox. Game Pass, as it currently exists, is the entire value of owning an Xbox. If they lessen that value, the reasons to own an Xbox disappear.

They've been lying to themselves for years that they are not. Just look at this thread. Even with all obvious evidence to the contrary, these morons still pretend Starfield sucks.
If these rumors are true, this won't move the needle in the way anyone making such a decision is surely expecting.
