It's not automatic. And it's not as much the case in pub games as it would be in like some MLG tournament.

PC gamers just don't care about casual shooters.

There's a demographic that doesn't, sure, but it's not across the board.

Although, Advanced Warfare, the best playing COD since BLOPS, completely died off on PC, which was a friggin shame. But I wouldn't call that game casual.

The only console players who would elect to play a shooter willingly against PC players just really love the game more than anything. The ease for PC players wouldn't be a driving factor for them.

Like it was already said, COD isn't a huge game on PC anymore. It's more Counter Strike than anything else now days. Also, none of of those PC players could use a mouse and keyboard in a console tournament.

Well no, I'm not saying nobody plays them on PC. But it's pretty evident that far fewer PC gamers play casual shooters. That means the inevitable drop-off in population 3 months later is more devastating on PC. A few thousand players may seem like a lot, until you realize that 80% of them are playing one game mode, and you're connecting with people overseas. It's really just a numbers issue. Plenty of stats say PC gamers far outnumber console gamers, but that's because of the inordinate amount of people playing tablet games. If you cut out the Angry Birds/Temple Run population, you still have a massive chunk of the population playing MOBAs full time, or CS:GO, or an MMORPG.

Really? I think COD is the model for casual shooters. It may be less casual than Battlefront or Titanfall, but (on PC at least) there is hardly a competitive scene for it. And I don't say that as a negative. I wouldn't play it if the skill ceiling was too high.

Sony's response

quote:

On Monday, Microsoft made the news after announcing cross-network play for Xbox One. Suffice to say, everyone shared in the excitement.

But what about those of us on PS4? Gamespot reached out to Sony asking if working with Microsoft would be something they’d be interested in.

“PlayStation has been supporting cross-platform play between PC on several software titles starting with Final Fantasy 11 on PS2 and PC back in 2002,” they responded. “We would be happy to have the conversation with any publishers or developers who are interested in cross platform play.”

While they didn’t mention the Xbox One specifically, dancing around naming competitors seems to be commonplace. Microsoft only went as far as “other console [networks]” in their announcement, so there’s hope yet.

In the meantime, Sony has been asked for further clarification on this. We’ll keep you posted.
