Finally got started on the Legendary collection. Doing an Insanity completionist run in ME1 with an Infiltrator right now. I'm sure this will cause some butthurt, but man this game's gameplay has aged like milk I have all the non-story trophies completed, so I'm about to just blaze through the rest so I can get to GOAT ME2.

FOV is way too small, controls are clunk as frick, mako and planet exploration are just awful, and the quests outside of the main ones are very meh. Go to a planet/ship, explore 1 of the 4 building layouts (or 2 ship layouts), kill a bunch of stuff inside, done. Maybe spend 10 min trying to drive over a mountain to some debris or an anomaly and then do the goofy QTE minigame for the 200th time.

I thought Insanity would be a lot harder, but it's kind of a joke. It's more tedious than anything, so fricking annoying how every enemy spams Immunity. Fights just take a little too long. Only parts where I've died a lot were the derelict freighter with all the husks that 1shot you and the ship with all the biotics on it that just stunlock you.

My first time playing this was in 8th grade, so I did everything you expect a 13y/o to do. Soldier, only used Wrex and Garrus, never used abilities, etc. Now I pick characters based on what missions I'm doing, I'm constantly using abilities (wow biotics are so OP lol), and I'm trying to make different choices from what I did the first time. Going the opposite way on sacrifice, laying the wood to Liara this time, and much more renegade. My Shep is a sarcastic prick.

Don't think I can play through this again, the gameplay has just aged too poorly. Thank goodness the writing is god-tier. Funny how the parts where I struggled as a kid were so easy this time (Benezia fight) despite playing on Insanity this go-round. Only part I remember being tough as a kid that was also tough this time was the damn rogue lunar VI side mission.

Ready for 2 and 3. Think they will be much more palatable with the gameplay distillation. Any class recs for Insanity?

The morality system in each game is different. With that said, Mass Effect is a game truly about choice. A huge number of choices you make will impact later games

lol not it fricking doesn't

Everything you choose is later on retconned to push you towards a handful of desired outcomes. It's still a tremendous trilogy, but don't act like every choice matters.

Mass Effect 1 difficulty really drops off once you level up enough that explosive ammo mods start dropping. Shotgun + Explosive Ammo really puts the ME1 physics engine to the test. Especially if you equip everyone with it. Husks and Thorian Creepers just fly around the room. The sniper rifle with explosive ammo does insane damage as well.

Plus I don't think the enemy damage really scales well with the OP armor you unlock mid-late game. If you find Kassa make Colossus armor, you're pretty much invincible after that. I think the Heavy Colossus armor has 80% damage reduction and 450 shield strength.

Yeah this is what I’ve been using, so OP. Going to put some in Tali’s shotgun too

I didn't say "every choice matters". I said, and I quote: "a huge number of choices you make will impact later games". And that's 100% accurate.

That's why I play Hardcore. Everything I've ever been told about Insanity makes it sound just... not fun.

The story, number of characters and the dialogue you can have with each of them definitely makes ME2 my favorite of the Trilogy. It’s such a shame that EA put the devs on a shitty, unrealistic timeline for ME3.
The gameplay in ME3 is the best, but seeing as how you are in 2 right now, I will just say: Take your time, enjoy and appreciate the wonderful story, and I would highly recommend doing all of your squadmates loyalty missions.
