Was Effective Military Strength always a part of the game? I just don't seem to remember it. Or maybe you couldn't get max & unlock the one destroy ending without multiplayer so I didn't bother.
Yep, and it sucked.
Basically:
War Assets x Readiness Rating (starts at 50%) = Effective Military Strength
So if you didn't play multiplayer, etc, your war assets got cut in half. At the time of the original release, it was literally impossible to get enough war assets to get the best ending (what I'll call Destroy+, to avoid spoilers) if you didn't boost your readiness rating above the default 50%. With the release of the Extended Cut, the system was basically kept in place, but the effective military strength needed for each ending was significantly lowered, enabling people to get the best ending even if they only had 50% readiness.
With the Legendary Edition, that whole system has been scrapped, so now you just have your unmodified war assets that determine (to an extent) your ending.

And just fyi in case you look up wikis later, the numbers required for each ending have been modified. I won't post the number in case you just want to shoot blind, but if you do start looking things up, make sure your guide is done with the LE in mind, not the original trilogy.

Finishing the Citadel DLC bumped me from 8020 to 8090, so worth 70 war assets. Now just the last two priority missions. Don’t think I have it in me tonight. Don’t want it to be over :/

I legit felt depressed when i finished it 2 weeks ago. Part of that depression stems from it being a paragon play-through with all the best possible outcomes for characters, only to select the “best” ending where shepard survives, and I’m racked with the guilt of destroying the Geth and EDI…
I tried playing Dragon Age Inquisition afterward, but i just couldn't do it…. Restarted ME over again yesterday and i’m so excited to go on this journey again

Being this is my third playthrough, I really wasn't expecting it to hit me this way again...

I think my next playthrough will be a Talimancing Sentinel. Thoughts? (on the class, not the romance :P)

I’ve never tried Sentinel, but that might be what I do in ME2 and 3 on this playthrough- last time I went Adept all the way through. biotic combos are a lot of fun, but would be nice not to be as squishy on this playthrough for sure.
I did Ashley/Miranda/Miranda last time. Gonna do Liara romance all the way through this time but will definitely romance Tali the next playthrough!

I have a hard time shifting on romance. I’ve always romanced Liara because it was the only one you could do all the way through.
Next run, I think I’m going to leave Ash on Vermire (being it’s damned near impossible not to romance her otherwise) and go Tali for the next two.
As an update, just finished Cerberus HQ. Military Strength is now at 8190.
Time for Priority: Earth…

Made my last tour of the Normandy, said my goodbyes, walked up to the galaxy map and Traynor tells me I have a new email. I forgot about Allers' last email... Earth can wait until tomorrow. I don't have it in me tonight.

And it’s Mass Effect depression time…
I decided to do all three stages of the party low key before the last push, saving all three rowdy stages for after. Hopefully it takes some of the edge off, because damn…

IDK if anyone else feels this way, but ME3 with all the DLC seems like twice as long as ME1 or ME2.
There's so much shite to do in this game it feels like...

Months ago, I saw an interesting graphic breaking up the games into number of main quest vs side quests, time to play, random stuff, etc, but I can't seem to find it. So, this is the best I've got on short notice:
LINK /
In short, the first game is easily the shortest when it comes to story, but there are tons of fetch quests (writings, minerals, etc) that make the game longer, so if you avoid those, the game is quite short. 2 and 3 are roughly the same, but I agree with you that it feels longer. My theory on that is it feels that way because the DLC is so much more extensive, and because that feels a bit separate from the main game, the perception of length is different.

Agreed - it does feel like those added quests are a bit of a grind and an out-of-body experience, especially since I never played them on the original ME3.
By the time I reached the 3rd dungeon on the Omega/Aria DLC, I asked myself "how long is this shite, and what is the main quest?"

As a combo focused adept, that final battle was a pain in the fricking arse to solo on hardcore

I was actually able to do it in one try this time around, but on my second ME playthrough (which was my first with the DLC) there were many critical mission failures and much swearing involved...

Just finished ME1 again. First time ever saving Kaiden instead of Ashley.
I cant stop playing this damn game lol.

I might have a trial on Monday, which has been the only thing stopping me from firing up another trilogy run, doing my broshep/sentinel/Talimancer run

And in my opinion, Kaiden grows more in the next couple of games than Ash. Other than the funny scene of her being drunk on the floor, she's actually kinda lame in the second two games, in my opinion.

NGL i just played for about 10 hours today ??
Started the day on Noveria, ended today having already done Kasumi’s loyalty mission and just aquired Grunt.
I am trying out sentinel and its pretty fun. Just not used to the idea of bum-rushing into a group of enemies so its taking some getting used to for sure.

Her appearance in 2 was so lame it felt like they were punishing you if you picked her in ME1

I talked to her immediately after literally destroying Cerberus and she’s still giving me fricking attitude, like “I don’t want to bring up the past again, but…”
Bitch…
I sent the Quarian back to the flotilla, kept Legion, sent sensitive Cerberus data back to the Alliance, saved David, stopped the Collectors, destroyed their base and the human reaper, stole the Normandy and delivered it to the Alliance, stopped the Cerberus kidnapping at Grissom, stopped the Cerberus invasion of the Citadel, stopped the hellscape that was Sanctuary, and wiped out Cerberus while literally sitting in TIM’s chair.
You were Udina’s fricking patsy.
So imma need you to get right the frick off these nuts
