Grabbed it a little while ago with some additional joy cons. Wish I would have checked this thread first

ETA:

Right off the bat it won’t allow us to choose motion controls and move forward. Anyone experience this? I select motion controls and connect the controllers only to have the game kick us back to the beginning of the process each time.

No taunts, no flyovers, no replays, no team golf, etc. The CPU (not including adventure mode) is cheaper than ever. Within the first twelve holes I played (a 9 and a 3 hole match), the CPU hit a hole in one, holed out from over 60 yds three times, and chipped in from 20 yds. for good measure.

They took out features from previous games for no apparent reason. There's little to no personality. They could have rolled out Toadstool Tour with updated graphics and a few new courses, and I would have happily taken it.

I haven't played any of the golf games since 64. So, I don't know what I'm missing. However, I just got to the XC version of golf in the story mode. I thought it was a pretty clever twist on golf. For each challenge, you have a certain number of strokes to finish a set number of holes. You decide what hole to aim for. Since it's mountainous course, there's some strategy involved.

Been playing it since yesterday and it's not as bad as I thought it be was going to be after the reviewers looked at it. Sure it could use a few more features but it's a good Mario Golf game in my opinion

I like it. You guys are giving it a hard time. Good one to play with my son as well as other friends/family.

The problem is, Camelot has developed much better MG and other sports games in the past that games like Mario Tennis Aces and Mario Golf Super Rush come off as major disappointments. Sure, as standalone games they are fine enough, but it’s been proven in the past that they can do much better.

Like, I have enjoyed playing Super Rush so far, but the game is just so flat to me. The music is boring, the courses all feel like the same, boring grass course besides two of them. And the story mode is completely bland…. All of that for $60.

I will say, my favorite edition to the game so far has been the XC Golf mode in the story mode, but it really never gets expanded upon which is really unfortunate.

Played it most of the weekend...Not too bad. I did go online and won most of my matches played.

I have unlocked the Star 1 bag for a few characters, didn't really see a difference in scoring. I will be working on unlocking the Star III bags this week.

As far as 'feel' of it being a Mario world I agree it could be a little better. There are multiple characters that you face on the course as you unlock more though. (Easiest way to unlock a course is free play and play 18 on the highest course you have unlocked). I would say my favorite course is Ridgrock Lake.

Explore the time rush challenge where it's a race to see who can finish 3 holes the fastest. It is a special arena that reminds me of the Balloon Battle arena for Mario cart
Decent game
...with friends playing with motion controls-7/10
...playing alone 6.5/10

They should have like goombas walking around in the rough, have koopa troopas in and around the water, the backgrounds/settings should be old Mario levels

This should be an immutable component of every Mario Golf game.

I am surprised how much I like the speed golf version of the game. I figured it would be a gimmick and I would mostly stick to the regular golf. I'm in the desert part of the story mode and the speed game has me addicted. I was worried it would be all about how quickly you can get the ball down the fairway, but there is skill required. It adds :30 for every shot.

I just finished the story mode in this game, and I really think they took 5 people, put them in separate rooms, then just stapled their drafts for each course's story together to make the final story.

Spoilers

The beginning is straight forward and seems like a typical golf story. You're a rookie and have to finish in a certain spot in a tournament, then you can move on. Then you get to the mountain area and that is pretty much dropped all together. Then, you get to the desert area, and now you have to save the town. Next, you're in the rainy area and all of a sudden you are fighting a lightning knight and Wario and Waluigi are looking for a treasure that is never really explained. Then, you have to backtrack to the desert to fight a phoenix. In the middle of all this, you learn to hit flop and duff shots from wizards. These shots aren't usable outside of the story mode. Finally, you get to the snow/Bowser area and save a town that you've been in for 2 seconds with a magical fire ability. You beat a snowman, then all of a sudden the game is over.

I figured with Chargin Chuck and Boo talking so much that they would be a constant antagonist to you throughout the story. Instead, they come back in randomly in the desert and never return. I know it's a Mario game, so the story needs to be crazy, but it would be a lot more enjoyable if you had to place in a tournament at each place to move on.

Haven't had a chance to play the story mode yet. I have been playing online matches as well as solos. Just trying to get all the clubs unlocked for each character. I hope they will put more maps out as time goes on.

I guess I will have to give the story a try.

Yeah, I was playing golf, and then I was playing worse golf, and then I was playing fast golf, and then suddenly the plumber version of team rocket showed up and I got a Zeus sword, had to murder Moltres, and now I'm off beyond The Wall to fight Frosty the Night King and save the world from weather?

It'd be more enjoyable if the golf part was better. I wasn't expecting 2K21 but half of the game seems to be bad mini-games and the other half where you're actually playing golf isn't good enough to justify that.
