Yup. I like having a few mappable buttons on my mouse (couple on the thumb side, one on the scroll wheel), but that's about it. I've always thought that mice with a ton of programmable buttons (see below) are comical:

Not these days. Modern games have a ton of aim assist and in games where people play both (like Warzone), controller players win tournaments most of the time

I didn't realize that competitive console players had been reduced to arcade kiddies. That's a shame.

I have an i5-11600K
64GB Ram
Asrock Steel Legend z590
RTX 3060
Pcie 4x gen 4 1 TB NVME WD sn850 ssd
Pcie 4x gen 3 2 TB Sabrent ssd
WD black 4TB (for media)
Wifi 6/bt 5.2 m.2 card
Built for just under $2k
This thing kills my PS5 in graphics and loading times and I only play on a 1080P tv.

If you have a PS5 and don’t have an LG CX or C1, you aren’t getting but a fraction of what the console is capable of. I’m telling you—these TVs are AMAZING.

High end gaming monitors > high end TVs. I know you’re big on the PS5, but seriously

Can’t you get a 4k 120hz hdmi 2.1 capable TV a little cheaper than you can do so with a monitor? Also at twice the size. I’ve read a ton of people are actually using the 48” CX as a pc “monitor” in favor of these high end monitors. I’m guessing the downside is the response time?
On my phone at work now so too lazy to re-research this right now. But he emphasized only using a 1080p monitor so I just assumed he was under equipped on the console as well.

TVs are generally significantly cheaper than monitors because of the difference in pixel density and the difference in processor (which is responsible for the much faster response time you noted).

I just really don’t understand the argument. A PC build that performs closest to a PS5 would certainly be something similar to mine, right? 4K @ a steady 120hz requires some serious hardware. Getting your hands on a 6800XT alone right now would cost you more than double the entire console.
I feel like I’m being very objective and impartial being that I regularly play both and have extremely optimal setups for each.

Fwiw I think the 1ms response time is the most overrated monitor/tv spec there is. I can give frick all about it unless I’m gaming on a Zenith with the built in dvd player from 2002 or something
I do recognize response lag when it occurs without a “game mode” setting turned on. Once it’s turned on, whatever shite response time these TVs have is quicker than I can recognize.

For the most part, 1ms response time isn’t real. It requires overdrive modes that make the image look like shite, usually causing issues like reverse ghosting.
But for fast moving images, a panel with a 7ms gray to gray will look significantly different than a panel that’s 25ms gray to gray.
Pro tip: if you’ve never gone into the settings of your monitor, you’re probably on a very slow overdrive mode.
Eta: When I talk about panel speed, I’m not talking about input lag. You’re absolutely right that the average person can’t tell the difference. I’m talking about actual panel refresh gray to gray speed and how that impacts fast moving images, quick color changes, etc.

What are you running 4k@120 fps on a PS5?
I'm actually on your side on this. I've always been a PC gamer, but with inflated component prices, I'm sticking with my PS5. My PC is 5 years old now and the PS5 blows it away, and to build a computer that can compete is just too costly. I dont play enough anymore to justify $2000 when my existing PC still easily handles the day-to-day stuff I do outside of gaming. I just play on my PS5, I don't play much FPS anyway.

I'm actually only now realizing that he had another post I missed, but I wanted to quickly respond to this before I move to that one: Just to be clear again, I'm not arguing that building a PC right now is a better value proposition than a PS5, if you can get it for MSRP. My posts have been in response to his statement that his PS5 blows his $4k gaming computer out of the water. We've now learned that he meant "blows it out of the water playing Minecraft", but still

No, it would be a PC like Steve was using for testing, using something like a 1060 6GB.

A PS5 can't play anything resembling a modern game at 4K native 120hz. Seriously. A PS5 generally has to use some significant upscaling (which isn't done all that well) to get modern games to a playable 60hz at 4K. Which is impressive for $500, but that's not what we're talking about.

Now you're moving back to value proposition, which isn't what your initial statement was. You said that the hardware in a PS5 blew your $4k gaming PC out of the water. Go play something other than Minecraft and you'll very quickly see how absurd that statement is.
Posted on 1/9/22 at 10:10 am to Joshjrn
Yeah I will only argue for the value proposition of the new consoles. No way they keep up with top PC hardware.
But price-to-performance is really impressive (if you can get one at MSRP, which I did). I keep all games at performance mode bc 1440p 60fps >>>> 4k 30fps imo

I play R6Siege at 4K 120 “dynamic” resolution. Thinking of maybe trying out Assasins Creed Valhalla on each of my systems as a comparison now that we are all talking about it. Will do it soon and post the results and my thoughts. Fair enough everyone?
Also fwiw, after literal DAYS of troubleshooting and tweaking, I’ve got my PC performing much better. I was getting absurd high FPS numbers (which I expect) on every game I played but was experiencing disgusting stuttering and stuff no matter how low the settings. Turns out I fixed it on accident by reinstalling Radeon software and all driver. Don’t know wtf that was all about but it was awful and has been occurring ever since I built the PC. Didn’t even realize it wasn’t normal until we started talking about it really.

Spoiler alert: Steve clocked the graphics performance of the PS5 at roughly a 1060 6GB.
How is this possible? I thought the Xbox One X was roughly the same as a 1070?

Yeah I’m sorry but you are not gonna get 4k 120 from a 1060. None of those older cards are ever hdmi 2.1 compatable.

In “performance mode”, or dynamic mode, you’re not getting 4k 120. You’re getting watered down graphics that are upscaled to 4k. I’m not saying they don’t look great; they very well might. But stop saying you’re getting high settings 4k 120. You’re not.
