Looking to get a PC

Not sure where to start as I've only done console gaming. I don't need anything super expensive or high end right now just something that can be good enough to play most games. Not looking to want to run something like GTA VI
I know people like to build a PC but unsure how to even do it or if that's even cheap now since AI has caused prices to spike

Need to start with what’s your budget. And your post is kind of vague. Are you wanting to play new triple a games or are you going to play mostly older or less demanding games? Do you care about gaming at 4k or are you ok with gaming at 1080p?

Well you're fricked. Even consoles are going for a grand.

Unfortunately this is the worst time in the last 30 years to build or buy a gaming PC. You can expend to pay at least 100% more than you would if conditions were normal.
The upside is that it doesn't looks like a new series of video cards is coming out for quite a long time so you'll get a lot of mileage out of your PC. Probably more than in the past.
If you buy something that's good enough to play most games, it should still run GTA6. You always have the option to turn graphics down until you get a frame rate you're good with playing at.
There are countless resources available online to show you how to build a PC. If you're asking, I'm assuming that you want to go the pre built route. Starforge is one of the more popular companies right now. Their Voyager series has a few models that are tailored to mid range.

Also, if you do aim for 4k, make sure you either are getting or planning on getting a monitor that supports it. No point in shelling out for a card that can get 4k and/or high frame rates if you attach it to a 10 year old monitor.

I would recommend against 4k for a first timer. I feel like you need some knowledge of components and display settings.
1440p is a perfect middle ground between 1080p and 4k.
