Exactly. What I gathered is that the i7's price is not worth the minimal, if any benefit you receive while gaming.

go with an amd and get more bang for your buck, just make sure it is well ventilated

Thanks for the input fellas. I think I'm just going to build one since that seems to be the cheapest way.

At what resolution ? And at max settings ? And what frame rate ?

It can't run BF3 on max settings at a good framerate and I can tell you that without even knowing your components.
Just the appropriate video card and an i5-2500k would kill most of your budget.

Not only that, but you put your own copy of Windows 7 on there and it's not going to have all the bullshite sabotage crap that comes on prebuilt PC's.
Your memory, hard drive, case, motherboard, etc. will be 10x the quality of a prebuilt PC also... and cheaper.
The only good component that gets put into a prebuilt PC these days is the processor because intel makes very specific models that are always advertised as the selling point of the PC. I have yet to see a prebuilt one that has a decent graphics card in it either unless you go to a site like Dell and upcharge on the customization for 300% of what you could buy it for yourself.
