Anyone picked this one up yet? It was apparently an old SNES JRPG by Square that never made it to the US and was recently enhanced and released on the Switch.

My son told me he'd played the original on an emulator and that it was very good so I picked it up on the Switch and I've been pretty impressed so far. It seems that Octopath Traveler owes a lot to this game... The visual presentation is similar and looks amazing IMO. Combat takes places on a small grid and reminds me a little of Fire Emblem. The game is a series of seven story lines that all take place in different time periods but are all apparently related. You can play the chapters/story lines in any order.

I started out in the Prehistoric era, and I love how language doesn't exist yet so the characters all communicate through gestures and pictures in speech bubbles. The game has a ton of personality and has been a nice little surprise for me.

Anyone looking for a good old-school JRPG on the Switch can't go wrong with this one IMO!

I tried the space station portion of the demo and was bored out of my skull after about 3 minutes. I might not be giving it its due, but I was not impressed.

Yeah I'm not sure of the quality/pacing/etc of the other eras. I'm still in Prehistoric and really enjoying it.

It definitely is slower-paced than some other games as you've noticed. I've been playing Triangle Strategy recently though and that is the slowest game I've ever played, so this practically feels like an action-fest! :)

I just want a standard SNES era (yes I know Live a Live originally released on the SNES) JRPG using the HD-2D engine.

I tried the demo and Live a Live is a bit too esoteric for my tastes. I was disappointed that the individual character chapters are pretty much the whole entire game before a (somewhat unnecessary) final chapter puts the party together to fight the final boss.

Yeah I could definitely see this one having kind of a niche following... I didn't play the demo but they must not have done a very good job on it. I'm hoping I didn't just happen to pick a good chapter to start and the rest of them are crap.

I'm planning on getting it eventually. Read some meh things on its localization, so didn't get it Day 1. I'm still working my way through Triangle Strategy so I've got plenty to play.

from the previews and reviews of gameplay I don't think it is my cup of tea. it looks boring AF.

I just want a port of Charles Barkley's Shut Up & Jam Gaiden for the Switch followed by the announcement of a release date for the anticipated sequel.
