So I do want to ask: what happened to the “rolling hardware” generations that were rumored?
Since consoles were becoming more like PCs in their architecture, we were going to get shorter console lifecycles, but developers were still going to support the prior system. Is that not the case any more? For example: PS4 and PS4 Pro are out, when the PS5 comes out games would be made to work on the 5 and the 4 Pro. Then the PS5.5 comes out and games only work on it and the 5, and so on.
I realize the Pro isn’t a huge upgrade from the stock 4, but the X1X did have a substantial hardware upgrade where I thought that Microsoft was going to shoot for that kind of a model.

I've never played a god of war game.
Was too busy playing the far superior Ninja Gaiden series. If you wanna complain about Nintendo fanboys, then I advise you hold the Sony ones to the same standard.
I do hope all the people who bought it enjoy it though. And their PlayStation getting fried.

Phil Spencer did say many times that they are moving away from hardware generations. I'm not sure what that means for the X1X. All systems moving forward should be backwards compatible but will the XB1X be able to play games that come out for the next xbox in say 2020? No one knows for sure. It makes me reluctant to upgrade at this time especially since I dont have a 4k tv.

I've been with PS since the 1st one came out. Last Christmas, XBone was on sale so I got one finally. I'm liking it more and more. Since Microsoft Rewards came out (Summer will bring XBox rewards) it's becoming more and more my favorite console.

Appreciate the thoughts. I’m in the same boat, don’t have a 4K TV but I wouldn’t mind getting the X1X if it would still have games made for it alongside the next generation Xbox. Otherwise I don’t want to pay $500 for a console that could be outdated in as little as 2 or 3 years. I wish Microsoft would clarify their stance because I’ve seen several people asking the same question I am, and nobody seems to know what they will do.
