I am planning on converting to the master race after I graduate but I want to play a few good games now. I used bootcamp to put windows on my mac but I am afraid that playing to many games will either ruin my mac or it will just look terrible because of the limited power.
What I want to know is if it is possible to spend a few bucks to upgrade my mac a little bit to play games better or should I just wait to graduate and drop $1000+ on a good PC?
You can replace the HDD with an SSD and max the ram but realistically you're bound to the shitty GPU.
As already recommended just build a desktop PC, even a moderately priced desktop will match or better the upcoming consoles.

Yes.
I upgraded my RAM and put a SSD inside. That is about all you can do.
My MBP Specs:
2011 13.3" MBP
i5 SB @ 2.3?
8GB (2x4GB) 1333Mhz Corsair Vengenace (Max speed)
120GB OCZ Vertex 3
I love MBPssssssssssss Awesome laptops.

I am wondering what makes the OP think that running games will ruin a computer...

The fact that when i watch movies on my computer it gets so hot that i could cook an egg on it. I figured playing a good game may do worse. But I am no expert so that thought is not well founded

When me and my wife go home for holidays I usually bring my PS3.
My dad still gets defensive when I hook it up to his tv. He swears my ps3 is gonna break his tv.

Oh don't worry about that. Macbook pro's universally acclaimed completely original aluminum unibody design means you can throw your MBP into the sun and it won't show a lick of heat damage.

Even on the internal components?

You can still game on a MbP when booting to Windows from Bootcamp, just make sure to install and run a fan/temp monitoring app like "Lubbos".
