Mario Kart, Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 are all lots of fun. Breath of the Wild may be more for you than them depending on how old they are, still worth getting though.

Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Smash Brothers are my recommendations.

Mario cart, Mario Odyssey, Kirby if they are younger.

My 6 year old likes odyssey way more than Zelda at this point although he does an admirable job of figuring out a lot of the puzzles.

I’d stay away from super smash brothers if they're young. It’s like giving them cocaine and they just go fricking crazy. I swear I think it’s too much stimulus for their little brains or something.

ETA: not just mine either, sample size of about 8 or 9 pretty bright little kids between 6-9 who played some of the other games with normal childhood excitement, all just lost their collective shite when my brother in law turned on smash brothers during the pre Super Bowl party

Lots of good suggestions. I'd throw out Overcooked 2 - downloadable and Mario+Rabbids

My kids like:

Rayman Legends
Mario Kart
Mario Odyssey
Kirby Star Allies
Labo - not the robot one
Skylanders - this game can be quite expensive
Zelda: Breath of the Wild - my 11 year old likes this game, my 5 year old just runs around and dies
Splatoon 2 - same as Zelda

Games that my kids want to like and will try to play, but are really more entertaining to me or my wife:

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
Smash Brothers
Mario Rabbids

Also, if you pay for the online service you get access to a bunch of original Nintendo games.

I think Mario Kart, Mario Odyssey, and New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe are probably the safest bets.

Get Nintendo Online as well so that you can play old SNES classics like Super Mario World, Mario Kart and Donkey Kong.
