If you're in the market for a new gaming headset, don't overlook Turtle Beaches.

Just because they're "mainstream" doesn't mean they aren't great headphones. I was under the assumption that Turtlebeaches were the bottom of the totem pole and only had sales because of retail connections. After skimming the market for a new headset and testing a few, I've quickly discovered that the Turtlebeach X12's have without a doubt the best sound and mic quality anywhere near its pricerange. I've tested the Razer Kraken Pro, a few Logitech headsets, a steelseries headset, and other Turtlebeaches. Nothing has touched the X12's in terms of sound quality. Particularly the highs and mids. I was in the market because long periods of wearing the X12's can cause some discomfort, but after seeing what else is available from 50-160 dollars, the X12's pricetag ($60) and the quality it gives over its competition is worth the occasion discomfort during marathon gaming. So much so that I've decided to not even get a new headset. Very underrated headset.

ETA: That being said, the Razer Kraken Pro was by far the most comfortable headset I've ever put on my head. I might get those for my MP3 since Turtlebeaches require a USB plug in to work and can't be used on the go.
