I need his age before I judge you like everyone else has. Teen, pre-teen, single digits?

I admit, I wouldn't mind reviewing the voice chat for my 8 year old. But I don't think I could bring myself to do it. I had 13 and 16 year old brothers at that age, and there is no way in hell he could here anything worse than what I heard from them when I was 8.

It's going to be a while before I let my kids just dive in to the online gaming world.

Its aggravating that I can't get him into any other (single player)
Games. It's all fortnite, or pixel gun 3d (which I like) if on mobile. It was roblox for a long time, which I was also ok with, and he had a brief interest in minecraft.

I've only given him a mic recently, and I've (discreetly) listened to his side of the conversation. But I can't control the other end, I can't control what he hears at school, and though i try to monitor his YouTube activity, video titles don't mean shite to me most of the time, so I'm sure he hears stuff there to. We can try and shelter them, but we'll fail. Just teach them right and wrong, and that there is much, much "wrong" around us, but we expect better of them.

Get ready to read 100's of pages of latchkey Mexican kids yelling "Hello?" over and over.

The fact that there’s a long fortnite thread on here shows that there are creepy old dudes playing and probably hitting on your son

It's not really much of a nerve when you're going CIA on your 10 year old.

I was making fun of the adults who play fortnite, not you

It’s a game designed for little kids

Serious question... when you here teens telling him that they f**ked his mother, and dropping racial slurs constantly, are you going to take the game away?

If he's behaving, but they are not, what are you going to do?

4yrs from now he will hear weird noises coming from the sons room.

Guess a security camera needs to be installed.

Which is the same thing as allowing your kid unsupervised access to the online gaming community.

My point was there is a lot of condemnation going on about a situation presented with no facts at all.

Age and prior incidents might be a good start.

But 10?

Online gaming chats are basically school yards.

Restrict 6,7,8yr olds but 10-11 is that time right before you start really discovering life. He or she imo needs that freedom. (To a point)

I trust most of you here are great ppl and even better parents. You did the hard work during the developmental stages which layed down solid foundations. He or she might engage with their classmates while growing but it won't make them toxic.

Monitor at a distance.

I do agree.

And I followed your point without you directly saying it.

A lot of us and myself included are making fun because the OP totally leaves any context out.

How about you stop being so intrusive before you push him into a life of drug abuse and STDs.

One of biggest life leassons came from a crazy drug abuser in the back of a pick up truck in Panama during spring break.

"STDs are harder to catch than you think"

Basically telling us to go wild and live life. Well that is how my friends and I interpreted it. The guy's intention might have been purely analytical, but we took it as some sage advice.

Believe that guy is dead now. Single child, stupid rich, 18in lift kits at 16. I don't think monitoring his text messages at 13yr old would have saved him. Once you spoil an egg it stays rotten. (Probably not applicable to the OP but to this story)
