I miss the simpler times

During the SNES/Genesis through the PS2/Xbox eras, there were video games for everything.
Remember when movies would release accompanying video games? That doesn't really happen anymore.
Good times.

Now movies are made about games.
But yeah, I miss studios taking a chance at making new games. Now it seems money only gets put into an existing franchise that has an established fan base, or its a complete rip off of a game that fits that criteria.
Its ironic that as consoles and tech has progressed, we get less disguised as more.

X-men Origins: Wolverine was really the only “movie-to-game” I enjoyed.

In the old days, you had limited RAM and graphics, so game designers had to be creative.

And they were, the difference between Mario 1 and Mario 3 was amazing.
I wish River City Ransom would have continued on, loved that game.

TLOU 2 had 2000 people and 14 studios work on it and STILL needed massive crunch to complete it in time.
Absolutely ridiculous. For context, animal crossing tripled its gross sales but took a billion dollar hit because of delays, but still netted 770 million dollars. And that’s with 100 core people working on the game.

Accompanying video game releases with movies were usually dog shite with a few exceptions and Chronicles of Riddick comes to mind.

I remember having my dad drive me all around town trying to find Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for Sega Genesis. shite was $70 after the 10th store and finding it. He was pissed. Good times..

The sequel to RCR, and the one that plays most similarly, was called Downtown Special: Kunio-kun no Jidaigeki dayo Zen'in Shugo. The setting is in ancient Japan, and all the different high school gangs are presented as different clans. There's a fan translation available, if you do emulation.

I still feel like Vice City is the ultimate GTA experience. Which goes to show that you don't need amazing graphics and a giant map to make a game that has a ton of replay value.
The same goes for Civ games. I love them all but Civ 2 will always be the pinacle to me.

They have boarded the release a half finished game and sell the other half as expansions train. They sprinkled some woke on top to complete the shite sunday. It's sad.
Big money has ruined most of the gaming industry. Passionate people ran the studios back in the day. Corporate suits run them now. Welcome to the era of franchises and remakes.

That's very true. I still haven't gotten into Civ VI. But I knew when it released that it would be at least two large expansion packs away from being the actual game.
I miss the days when Sid Meier was running the show and regularly releasing highly addictive games like Pirates, Gettysburg, Railroad Tycoon, etc.

I miss Pre-DLC days. Where you had to put in hours and grind to unlock everything.
Now for a full complete game, it’s costing about $100 now.

Yeah..
I was gonna mention;
Terminator (shooting game)
Alladin
Goldeneye
T.M.N.T. all of them. Except for that NES game. Couldn't get past seaweed.
Old school here... Gunsmoke

Same.
For example, Final Fantasy X is one of my all time favorites that I still play. The Monster Arena/Celestial Weapons side quest is so massive, no game would ever include that now. That would be a $19.99 add on.

Top Gun was great for NES as well. I still have nightmares about trying to refuel my plane
There were so many great movie games back in the day.

Most of them were bad. Are there any movies these days that deserve a video game that don't have video games released shortly after or have several better games in the same genre already on the market?
