I bought a game on steam and it’s asking me for the product key

Before it will download and install and I have no clue what the frick it’s talking about. Anyone know how to help me??
It says the number is on the certificate of authenticity on the back of the cd packaging but obviously I don’t have the cd

What game? And did you buy it directly through steam or buy a steam key on another site?
I have some games on steam that will still bring up that product key window, "copy and paste when prompted", but I've never actually had to do that.

Try right clicking on the game name in your library and see if they have a product key option or something similar there.

Only one I can think of was the original Dragon Age on steam.
