Agree 100%

Say what you will about how long it took them to make this game but the production quality of SilkSong is leaps and bounds above what Hollow Knifht had, all while maintaining that near perfect polish and controls. This is no minor feat

What you’re referring to almost reminds me of nier automata in a way. It isn’t touching on the same subject matter but the things it is attempting to take on it does it with such a fluidity and grace that’s almost never seen

When I wrap up work, I’m thinking I’m just going to mine for rosaries and get a simple key to try and find a different path. Greymoor just really, really kicked my arse and I hate all of the enemies there.

I'm a much bigger fan of the setting and narrative presentation/setup here than I was with the first game

Kidnapped by mysterious veiled bugs, brought to a theocratic nation of zealots and well-meaning bugs on pilgrimages, a mysterious citadel. And Hornet actually speaking is a huge plus

It's been so long since I've played the first game but I do enjoy that Hornet can speak. I'm about 5 hours in and I really have been enjoying it.

I need to get used to her diagonal attack stopping a bit earlier than I expect it to.

Personally I like the way Hornet controls in combat and her kit more than the the character from Hollow Knight

Yeah having to relearn how to pogo with the angular element is brutal

OK, I’m playing over lunch and now I feel like an idiot. Apparently the dash move does more than just dash like the Knight could, but also allows Hornet to run and perform acrobatic jumps. Probably would have helped if I had figured that out earlier.

Yes hornets kit is much more expansive and a lot of it is never revealed outright. Think of it like combo strings in a hack and slash game, experiment with some wild things and combinations and youll be pretty amazed with what you can do

Have you figured out what is actually happening after you recover and you and your meter start shining brightly? Doesn’t seem to kill enemies any quicker or make me less vulnerable.

I have no idea what that is indicating

I am sure it isnt just thrown in for no reason though. It is definitely an indicator that you can do something or pull off a certain move. It is possible it has something to do with whatever crest you are using and its a visual indicator that it is serving whatever its purpose is, I read a lot about how the crest and tools can change the HUD, attack animations, dash attack animations, then angle and style of pogo attacks, the silk meter and spool size, and amount of silk needed to heal.

My guess is it is something wrapped up in that,

Currently stuck here. I really dont like how every boss attack just nails you for two masks.

But it does not compare to that cancerous boss in the beast sanctum. They can lick my arse for that one.

Get Gud

In all seriousness, Hornet is way more agile and flexible with the ability to alter her attack combos and moves directionally, etc on the fly.

She can also heal while moving and in the air. I think it’s only natural that the enemies would have increased difficulty and AI to compensate. This game is far far more fast paced that Hollow, my friends who are struggling with it haven’t quite figured that out totally yet and are trying to play the game at a slower pace than is optimal.

Hesitation is defeat

I want to rape the Moorwing’s corpse. I don’t think I’ve ever hated a boss more than this one and I know I’m getting close to killing it but do one slight frick up and I’m down.

Finally beat the mother fricker and unfortunately you can’t teabag it.

Also I think I’ve figured out what the glowing does. If you kill enemies while glowing, they will secrete silk for you to recover it faster.

This would be a better case if i had the tools to do more combos. The only other attacks you get cost silk which i need for healing the two masks of damage i take for touching the boss while its stunned

I think the combat is overall more difficult than in the original, but it’s more fun and flexible imo with a much higher skill ceiling if you can reach it. I’m still very mid at the game

The platforming imo isn’t as difficult, but I don’t mind that. As I said above the production value in the sequel is far higher

Ok, made it to Bellhart last night. Some thoughts

- The world is beautiful

- I love the writing and think it’s a big improvement over HK. I’ll reiterate that a spoken protagonist is great and Hornet has a great personality

- Movement is wonderful once you get the dash ability. Hornet is fast af and I love her little acrobatic attack that you can do while sprinting. Sets you up perfectly for a pogo after.

- Bosses have all been really fun and the right level of challenge. I died the most to the mini boss with the club since you’re clearly supposed to fight him with dash, which I hadn’t gotten yet. Abusing Moorwing with endless pogos was fun. Lace and Fourth Chorus have been my highlights so far

On the other side of the coin, this game is kind of….obnoxious? It’s difficult, but in the cheapest and most tedious ways

- More attacks deal 2 masks of damage than 1, and you only have 5 masks…which effectively gives you 3 HP. You’re disincentivized from using silk attacks since healing uses your whole silk spool and you don’t want to miss out on the eventual heal you’ll need. Even an additional mask won’t help because you’re going from 3 hits to die to….3 hits to die

- Contact damage is insane and needs a longer buffer. It’s truly frustrating to to have an enemy hit you, you get staggered, then the enemy touches you. Boom, 4 masks gone. On no planet should contact damage take off 1/3 your health

- Way too many basic enemies have too much HP. Couple that with the crazy amount of flying enemies and combat just turns into a chore a lot of the time where you’re just waiting around. I thought “ok this will just be early game until I get a needle upgrade” but I still haven’t found one lol. People online are saying they’re at 10 hours with no weapon or health increases.

- Everything about the economy is whack. Only pilgrim enemies drop rosaries so they’re way more scarce than shards, shops are way too expensive, you get nickel and dimed at every turn to access benches/fast travel/maps, and you can lose all your rosary beads in the blink of an eye (I’ve lost 500+ once, not a good feeling). At this point im shocked they don’t charge you for each bench use LOL

I understand that it’s a sequel and the devs have to be mindful of the fact that everyone has mastered the original and tune the difficulty accordingly, but they did it in mostly poor ways. Very clear that it wasn’t playtested much. I’d imagine that things get a lot easier once you have a double jump and some other abilities, but ability progression seems really slow. I keep flip flopping from “this game is peak” to “this game is an annoying chore” over and over. I see why everyone is bitching on Reddit and Steam. I love and pretty much exclusively play difficult games, but this difficulty is cheap/annoying and not very rewarding

Yeah, they need to do a DLC for easy and hard modes. They’re really just thinking about the hardcore players right now and they’re going to lose a lot of amateur players.

Like maybe only four enemies I’ve encountered so far should take away two bars of health, and it’s like 15 of them. While the Bell Beast may have killed me three times before figuring out his pattern, I don’t think there’s any way that boss should have taken off two bars per hit, especially being the second boss.

Yeah, I’m not going near those bird frickers again until I get a sword upgrade. You got both that and the wall jump much earlier in Hollow Knight than this one which is a pain in the arse right now.
