Did anyone buy a Hopping Pot? Seems like it’s worth it but there’s not much information out there.
Posted on 2/22/23 at 2:27 pm to txpurpleandgold
I ended up buying it towards the end of my run.
It's ok. You have to wait I think 12 minutes for a potion, and its random, so definitely slower than crafting most yourself.
As a player who did not use the potions a lot, I wouldn't say you need it. Also, if you have a pretty good setup for growing ingredients you can just brew what you need.

Still doing some completion stuff on my Slytherin run after finishing most of the quests. Started a new one as a Gryffindor and god damn does it take a while before most of the tutorial sections are over. I get it. It’s totally needed if it’s your first playthrough.
If this doesn’t get a New Game + then they should at least add to where you can skip until the sorting or when you get your wand.

As much as I've enjoyed, and am enjoying, the game, if there is no NG+ added, I doubt I ever play it again from the beginning. Too much tedium to repeat.
Posted on 2/22/23 at 7:41 pm to Joshjrn
Yeah after having to go through it all again, I think this is my last one for a while
I wouldn’t really care about how tedious it all is if you just had all your spells unlocked from the get go

Spells being unlocked would be a bit messy, being that’s easily half of the main quests. But I see no reason for collectibles and talents not to carry over. Ideally RoR as well, but that likewise gets a bit messy.

Warning: Long arse post ahead
I finished my first play through yesterday, but I only got about 70% completed. I was the evil slytherin running around crucio-ing and killing everything that moved. Honestly once you got Imperio and Evada Kedavra it wasn’t even fun anymore. Just make them fight each other, get about 5-6 cursed at once, and EK all of them. Became no challenge. I skipped a lot of the “extra” because I got invested in the story line and wanted to see that through.
Started a new play through today as a Hufflepuff and I’m going to use absolutely no dark magic, be the little perfect wizard. I’m gonna bump difficulty to hard, try to make myself use the potions and plants, actually use the beasts/vivariums to level up my gear, and actually take my time and 100% this one. There were whole areas of the map I didn’t even have flown over in my first time (map was still cloudy) so there’s likely a lot I haven’t seen.
Now, here’s what I want to know: if you could make improvements to the game, what would you change?
-I think the gameplay mechanics are solid. Fights feel fun and actually have to learn combos that work together not just spam 2 buttons. Flight feels good on both broom and beast. Player movement feels good until my guy gets stuck on a knee high rock and can’t climb it, that’s frustrating.
-Could we make Revelio be like Lumos where once you press it it’s on til you turn it off or use a different spell? I hate spamming that button
-I wish night time actually meant something. In the books, the trio had to sneak around at night hiding from prefects. Make that a thing. At night, you either go to bed or risk getting caught…if you get caught let them confiscate all your potions, plants, money…something.
-I wish your choices had more consequences. For example, if you go the dark wizard route, I would like to see more of the other houses start to shun you and ignore you. You can run around with the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff girls Evada kedavraing everything in sight and they’re just cool with it.
-For Gods sake please give the option to mute the floo flames. I don’t care how inconvenient travel was and yes I’m going on another adventure. Don’t remind me every damn time I walk near one. Also, all roads lead to hogsmeade and it’s just so cozy.
-More sophisticated NPCs. Let them talk and interact a bit more. Make the common room be a place of interaction at least like the campsites were in Red Dead 2.
-Quidditch. If there’s not a DLC with quidditch that’s a huge missed opportunity.
-Competitve side quests (think gwent from Witcher3). Could be quidditch, more of the summoner game but more difficult, wizard chess, something)
-Maybe possibly romance/friendship developing options, instead of the forced 3 friendships? Not asking for full on sex scenes like Witcher or anything. But give us the option of who we want to befriend at least. Let them join us throughout the world. For a Harry Potter world which so heavily relied on the concepts of friendships and love being the most powerful thing, there’s basically none of that outside of certain scripted missions. It feels like assassins creed with wands at times.
-Maybe make the tons of food options available throughout the world mean something? Like a bar separate from your health. If you haven’t eaten you can’t sprint or something.
-More levels or make it tougher to level up. On my second play through I haven’t done a single trial and I’m already level 25 just from exploring Hogsmeade and hogwarts. Haven’t even went into highlands yet. I could probably hit max level before first trial.
-More challenging riddles/puzzles. Let me disable the hints my character says
-Give me alohamora sooner, and either get rid of the little unlock mini game or make it harder when you’re working a level 2 or 3 door. Makes no sense to be the same thing 1000 times
-House point system? Actually let you loose if you keep getting caught at night or get cause using dark magic, etc.
-Let aurors and dementors chase you down like cops in GTA when you get caught or seen doing evil choices. Let the NPCs get pissed and fight back when I break into their house stealing shite: at least make me go invisible and be sneaky. Or have a reputation where people respond to you as a killer/thief
-Please disable my normal spell setup when in room of requirement and replace it with those 3-6 spells that are only used in there. Don’t make me swap my setup everytime
-could we make the enemy camps or at least the spiders disappear after they’re beaten instead of reappearing later
I’m sure there’s more. And I don’t want this to seem like old man screams at sky. I enjoy the heck out of this game as is, or else I wouldn’t be going for another play through.
TL:DR - I just see some things as missed opportunities and could have taken this game from “pretty good Harry Potter game that the fan base will appreciate” to “among top RPG games ever that anybody would enjoy playing”

Agree with a lot of what you said...although did it really need to be clarified that you weren't looking for full-on sex scenese between young children characters
One of my biggest issues that is also prevalent in other open-world games is that they make it so big, they feel they need to fill it with "stuff". The "stuff" ends up being incredibly repetitive (finding the statues, doing the merlin trials, finding the note pages, etc). Once you figure out the ? and ?? locks to the doors, why do you have to do that same thing 50+ times.
The bones of a really good game have been developed and they did a really good job with it, but there's a lot that needs to be improved. It certainly isn't the game that the weird arse OP made it out to be but it's solid. I'm also not a Harry Potter fan, so it doesn't get any extra bonus points from me for any fan service or special details that the fans likely appreciate more than me. If this same game was built with Batman characters, my review would probably be much more positive.

They should patch out the trans character

the bartender?
for real, is that a man or a woman?

long hair, boobs, etc... should be a woman?
sounds like a man.

gotta be trans. the dialogue seems to indicate as such.
the inclusion of the character is something I couldn't care less about, but it wouldn't shock me if the character was put in to make an attempt and getting around the hysteria surrounding JKR and the alphabet community.
Based on the backlash that folks such as The Girlfriend Reviews are getting for simply making an attempt at reviewing the game...this strategy clearly didn't work

Like the camera focuses in on his boobs and then it pans up to the 5oclock shadow and the norm McDonald voice

i didn't know the ability to be trans was possible in the 1800s.
i guess a specific spell could accomplish it.

lol exactly. the makers of this game have the luxury of being able to justify anything due to the magical aspect.
I'm actually 95% confident they included this character because of the Rowling shite and it appears to have had 0 effect.
EDIT: LMAO...apparently the character was actually voiced by a tranny

Either that or it was the game-makers taking a swipe at her. The butt-hurt over her not celebrating BID (Body Image Dysphoria) as a normal and healthy lifestyle is so bad she was not even invited to be part of the recent anniversary broadcast.

I like a lot of those ideas.
One that I would include would be a map option for a full-screen version of the mini-map. I like the big world map for the outdoors, but it's utterly useless for the indoors and the current iteration of the mini-map doesn't give you very much distance.
