I think the PS1 has aged well. Some of the greatest RPGs I've ever played is on that console.

And to think, it even lost its own console war, despite having a vastly superior library to the PSX

I only had a N64 that generation and my first introduction to Playstation was the PS2. Despite that, this still makes me say what?! PS1 has a fantastic library.

To your question though, I do think some titles have aged very well. Smash Bros, Mario Kart (and all Mario sports titles) ,Zelda, and Star Fox are still fantastic. Others haven't been so lucky like Jet Force Gemini, Quest 64, and Goldeneye.

Quest 64

was a crap game back then.

the 64 had no good RPGs. that was really the only big draw the PS1 had on me.

RPGs (and Koei games) is why SNES wins for me. I've never been that into multiplayer tho.

Uncharted series
Arkham series
Red dead redemption
Tomb raider
Hard rain
Skyrim

I think "the last of us" will make this list too

Well, the problem is, the console wars is not how it used to be. Most of these were on the 360 as well. If there's a system remembered this generation, it will be the Wii due to its uniqueness and how it pushed gaming. 30 years from now, no one will remember the PS3 or the 360, but I think the Wii will be somewhat remembered for its uniqueness.

Really, its only aged well if you were an RPG player. The PSX was an incredible console for RPGs. If you weren't into that, then the PSX has probably aged worse than any other successful console. No one in college carries their Playstation or its games with them. People are itching to play Goldeneye, Smash Bros, and Mariokart though.

Both those games sucked back then. Its not among the N64's great titles. It's like listing Superman 64 as a famous good Nintendo game.

You can make a case for Goldeneye though.

one of my alltime favorite underrated masterpieces..

thats what always bothered me about the 64. the snes had so many great RPGs, and all that business jumped ship to sony.

I know Quest 64 isn't loved (I liked it though), but Jet Force Gemini is definitely very popular. IGN liked it enough to include in their overall top 25 (placed 20th) N64 games. [link=(uk.ign64.ign.com/articles/080/080843p1.html)]LINK[/link]

Or a racing player or a fighter player or a platformer player or horror player.

What the PS1 had over the N64 was just an incredible amount of great titles across all genres. The N64 has some that we still consider masterpieces to this day, but there's no depth.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

There is plenty of depth to the N64's game list.

I carried mine to college.

But I get what you are saying, most of the college aged group wants to play those select titles for the N64. I had an N64 and PS1 so I got the best of both worlds. I do know a lot of my friends got an N64 and never got to experience a PS1.

If you haven't played some of the platformers for the PS1, like Tomba or Klonoa, you should. They are a blast.

The N64's game library is very tiny compared to the other consoles of the time. However, almost every game is a quality game (I know Superman sucks).

There are plenty of great games for the console, just not a lot of depth by comparison.

I know using reviews is an imperfect measurement, but if you order PS1 and N64 by best to worst (I did for all games with at least 5 reviews), it takes 1.5 pages to get past all games rated 80% or higher. It takes 3.5 pages to get to the same mark for PS1.

PS1

N64

Yes, yes it is. Especially if you consider that some of the games on that list that rank below 80% include:

Super Smash Bros.
Mario Party
Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball
BattleTanx
Pokemon Stadium
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
Ken Griffey Jr.'s Slugfest
Mario Party 2
Quake 64
BattleTanx: Global Assault
Star Wars Episode I: Racer
Pokemon Snap (underrated)
Duke Nukem 64
Mystical Ninja starring Goeman
Mario Party 3
Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2
Gauntlet: Legends
NBA Hangtime
Glover 64
Bomberman 64
Bomberman 64: 2nd Attack
Road Rash 64
South Park
Destruction Derby 64
Clay Fighter 63 1/3
And every Cruis'n game is under 50%! WTF?!

Mother of god! Who ranked those games? That person should be shot...repeatedly.
