I just read a lot of reviews for this game and almost unanimously is the "save your money" line in the review. There's no BR and apparently it is not much different from Halo 3. One review called ODST a tribute band.

Just FYI...the no BR and lowered shields deal is just for the campaign. Online it business as usual with the new maps.

I got it last night, the multiplayer is the same as Halo 3, in fact, if you have all of the maps you will play against ODST people, minus the 3 new maps they came out with. I played the campaign, but I'm not sure I'd be the best to explain about this because I'm not into campaign and only play it for multiplayer.

I only played for about 30 minutes this morning after picking it up this morning.
Story is looking solid and I think this is the strongest point of the game. The Opening cinematic is awesome.
Game play feels like Halo 1 which is awesome. The new ODST weapons (Magnum, Silenced MPG) are great.
No new grenades
Main enemies so far are Grunts and Brutes (with shields and armor).
I'll let you know more when I get back to playing later today.
