eliminates anyone from III, Vice City, and San Andreas... so yeah. They could roll with 100% original characters across the board and I wouldn't really give a shite, but they established a precedent with IV that the PS2/Xbox game characters had zero connection with current gen games.
And Lazlo is as plausible as anything else, I suppose.

Well they said its an icon so I'm going with CJ. It's not like they said he was going to be a huge part of the game. Maybe someone from Grove Street just wants you to break him out the clink and that's that.
Again, I think you are reading way too far into them saying it's a different "universe". Los Santos is still "Los Santos", it's just bigger and more detailed. Like imagine the Tron game world from Tron to Tron:Legacy. It's the same place, just bigger and cleaned up.

I took the new liberty city and the quotes from the developers as a means of resetting everything. it was a complete shift in tone, so some of the characters from the previous gen wouldn't work in this new "universe"
doesn't really matter to me. I'll be happy with whatever they choose to do in terms of plot or characters. in rockstar I trust.
