Gears 5 looks to up the horror elements, be more ambitious.

All promotional material of course but a lot of the footage released has a dead space vibe to it. Between Kate having hallucinations of the Locust like Issac did of the marker and some of the footage of combat inside the hive.
I've always thought Gears would be a lot better if it went the 3rd person action-horror route and I need a game to fill the void that Dead Space left open for me.
Regardless there's little risk in trying the game since game pass is literally $1 at the moment.

fine by me. the Gears formula has gotten stale and needs to be revitalized ala God of War. would greatly welcome a slower paced, more horror-centric experience

The multi-player was really fun on pc, enough so to do the Ultimate Game Pass 2 months for 2 dollars to get the ultimate edition tomorrow. Can't wait.

Here is the review of the gears 5 campaign from IGN.
Verdict
Gears of War may have initially thrived because it refined and helped revive the third-person cover shooter, but it has survived for a much less obvious reason: it has heart. From Dom’s search for his wife Maria in the first two games to the breaking of a bond in Gears of War 3 to the passing of the torch to a new generation of Gears the last time out, this series matters because its characters make you care. Gears 5 is no different, and the consequences from your actions here – along with its welcome gameplay improvements – will affect both this and future games in a way I’m eager to see.
TL:DR - 8.8/10 for the campaign.

You can play it now if you have game pass, download the game then switch location to new Zealand and It's working fine.

I heard it's pretty good.
I was never into the series, but played a few of the games, and thought they were decent.

Yeah Gears 4 was underwhelming. The fact that the new enemies are basically rehashed Locust made the whole game and new story seem redundant.

Played a decent amount last night and I already think it's awesome.
Campaign is definitely more horror themed.
Multiplayer matches play a bit faster which is awesome. With so many rounds per game, matches used to feel like they dragged on forever. They changed to less rounds and it's way better.
They weren't ready for the amount of people on the servers last night though. Played a few matches then got disconnected probably 50 times in the lobby.

It looks incredible on PC and very well optimized.
