As a lifelong console guy I am finally considering getting a PC for some gaming. I have several PCs, but none with gaming capability. I have been playing some VR and want to dabble in PCVR games. Specifically Geronimo (I really like solo tactical games). I'm not a hardcore gamer by any means. Just in the evenings when the family goes to bed.
So the question is, what is a good starter gaming PC? I don't want to spend thousands on something I don't use a lot. Should I just get something from best buy off the shelf, or get something off marketplace? I really have no idea where to start on the different setups.

Pre-built is going to come with compromises, regardless. A lot of companies are trying to grab slices of that market.

I would recommend building one yourself so you get more bang for your buck as well as learn a lot of about what goes into it. It is too damn easy to do now. I was having a problem finding the proper place to connect some parts to my motherboard. Chatgpt gave me a diagram and I was done shortly after

Not sure where people rank NZXT at but I bought my prebuilt through them for $2,000 a few years ago and love it.

While I'm generally 100% on board with this advice, with the current pricing on RAM, storage, and GPUs, prebuilts may or may not offer an advantage. We would need to see them priced out.

Pcpartspicker helps with pricing and compatability. I generally have to build about every 8 years for my purposes when I do this

I knew what was coming and bought everything i needed well beforehand. If you use an AI have it do daily price searches for deals

Go to amazon and search Skytech Gaming PC. I have bought two Skytech gaming PCs from amazon and both have been great value for the price. No issues with either PC. They have builds from under $1k to over $3k. You should be able to find one that fits your price range
