It's an old meme, but it checks out.

Here's a reason...

quote:

The CCO also noted how “this is a game,” highlighting a point that should be obvious — authenticity doesn’t matter as much as appealing to a broad base of players. If authenticity mattered in games that much, then those complaining about Battlefield 5 would have perhaps preferred a portion of Battlefield 1 devoted to a soldier incapacitated with trench foot.

“And we don’t take any flak,” Soderlund concluded. “We stand up for the cause because I think those people who don’t understand it, well, you have two choices: either accept it or don’t buy the game. I’m fine with either or. It’s just not ok.”

the arrogance in that last bold statement is pretty insulting and it showed in Battlefield 5 sales.

Wow, a company didn't cave to the neckbeard pussies on Reddit and Twitter. #sobrave

Yea.

That is, in fact, the group they caved too.

Reddit and Twitter are the hot beds of progressive neck beards.

lulz to the idiots who still think the sales of BFV had anything to do with that

That was definitely not the only factor.

The game itself was shitty and wasn’t fun to play.

That and they misread the market. They put out a WWI game that no one was expecting, which was fine. I thought it was fun and a nice change of pace, fully counting on the next one to go back to modern combat.

There was an article in Kotaku or Polygon where it was reported that EA had BFV as a one of their backups. If BF1 did poorly, they'd go back to modern. If it did well, apparently they would take it as "this is what the players want right now", and everyone was done. That and it being barbones and their BR mode not coming out until the next year doomed it from the start

I meant that they didn't cave to the ones who were so upset about the cyborg lady and black guy Nazi.

Polygon

If Polygon wasn't owned by woke Vox I might look at their content.

Same with the Verge. I loved the Verge, I loved those guys who came from Engaget. Then around 2014 they become woke. It went from website to podcast. It's like a plague.

Polygon's staff is noob central, and that was true even before the infamous Doom 2016 and Rock Band 4 coverage.

They are but quality is there.

Some articles feel like they tried to get a story that no one else thought of.

I just can't read anything because it's written by whiney kids.

Pretty sure it was a Kotaku article by Scheier. He's all over these "this developer is fricking up" stories.

There's nothing wrong with having situational sensitivity and compassion.
