I just picked it up. Did the photo challenge in Yosemite. Tried the one in rmnp but it is impossible to land in this game.
Maybe I had assists on in 2020 without knowing it.

i've been on the fence on flight sim for years. Is Career Mode fleshed out enough?
I downloaded it last night and started a career. I tried to fly with a keyboard. I did the first mission and the controls were terrible, but I did manage to finish it. I didn't try anymore because it wasn't pleasant, waiting for a joystick to arrive now.
I did manage to see the career path tree. There are multiple paths you can take. But I'm not sure how in depth each node is.
Found a screenshot. So for like the Heavy Airliner, you'll need to do 7 total nodes. And then some of them cross over.

You can try the game for 2 weeks for $1. Sign up for a the PC gamepass 2 week trial. After that I think it's like $10 a month. Even if you already have had a gamepass account in the past, their trial thing seems to reset often.

Pro tip. You can increase/decrease the sim rate and not get penalized for skipping flights in career mode.

Got my turban engine certification pretty easily and then tried to get my jet engine certification this afternoon. Turns out trying to land small jet engine planes is more difficult than I thought. I came in and touched down going 140 mph and bounced all the way down the runway until I ran off into Toronto Harbor

Cool.
Joystick arrived yesterday, so gonna give it a go tonight. Hope it works.

Got an A on my PPL.
Landing is a bitch, it took me 3 tries.

I’m using a controller. My wife needed ideas for Christmas so I sacrificed not having one for a month so she could get me something

I just got a cheap logitech off Amazon. I wasn't even sure if it would work, but it was plug in play no problem.
I would love to have a better one with trim wheels etc.
I got my commercial pilot license and now I am poor.

Is that the High Performance and then Jet Engine path?
I was looking at that path because I want to go fast, but does the pay change based on path?

This sounds so much more intense than the Flight Simulator I played on my grandpa’s windows 95.

So you don’t really go down different paths. From what I can tell. You just get different certifications and that allows you to do missions with those planes as they become available. Or you can start your own business once you have the necessary certifications
(Example would be having a turbo engine and tail wheel plane certs in order to start a crop dusting business)

I was mostly looking to get more than 300-500 credits for a mission, and trying to get more credits quickly to unlock etc.
Then I remembered the pro-tip from earlier about sim speed, so on my last mission I got over 3000 credits and a ton of XP throwing on the AP and cranking the sim speed up. Great tip, don't feel the need to invest in credit farming so much now which is what I was worried about before.
I tried out one of the challenges last night with the F14 or maybe F15 I think it was. Wow, I am terrible at that. I bet I crashed about 15 times.

Is Gamepass slower since you are streaming it?

Not sure what you mean, but 90% of the game is streamed for everyone, so its as inherently slow as MSoft can only push so much up the pipe..
the game itself seems to run fine, a week later, for many of us though..I run a decent PC and have Gb internet..Xbox seems to not want to play at its peak and the flight sticks are still inverted on it..

I'm on fiber, so I'm not sure. Loading the game seems a bit slower than most games. I guess that could be due to this, but once in game I haven't had any slow times.

Started my first company, a cargo company. It cost 10k to buy the company, and then 23k to buy a used Cessna 172.
Now faults, maintenance and all that is unlocked.

made $53k credits on my first mission.
Spent $600 to wash it, and like $24k to install a new landing gear, plus like $2k for basic maintenance.
Still came out with about $28k profit.

I just did a 5 and a half hour flight only to get to the airport and it’s fogged over to hell and back. I crashed twice before I just quit. I’m not happy at the moment
I’m trying to get my funds up to have my own cargo hauling business. The VIP flights are fun too

Oh that would piss me off.
One thing about having your own company is you have to pay a transfer fee to move your airplane to the airports to do the mission. Ones in the same region seem to be about $1k to about $4k, all based on distance.
But they have these "hot spots" or something where most of the missions are. And right now for cargo it's 2 places in Europe, where they have about 10 missions each.
Back in the US where my home base is, there were only 3. I did 2 of them, and then there was only one.
And they want to charge me $43k to transfer my plane to Europe. The transfer fee is in itself fine, because it should cost you money to transfer a plane etc. But I do not at all like the fact that my missions at home are so limited.
When I used many mods to create a career mode in old versions of FS, I would be able to do a load/passengers from every stop.
I haven't managed to unlock the VIP flights. I still need 2 more smooth landings. I figured out after my last mission last night that when I mapped the sim time to my joystick, it also shares a button with locking the brakes(I just use keyboard for that). So when I changed it during flight, it was locking my brakes and I was having a terrible time landing for obvious reasons.

Don't have any certifications either yet, just the CPL. Thinking I'll take the instrument one next time I play. Especially knowing fog as bad as you mention might happen. I'll need the refresher, I bought the cheap insurance so I can't afford to crash my plane.

Going to ask for a joystick for Christmas, what is good one for a casual setup for Xbox?
